Cubans supported African freedom movements. Trained their professionals. Sacrificed cuban lives in freedom wars alongside natives. Did not rob those countries. Did not get anything in return than their appreciation and friendship. Cuba did not exploit those nations or have businesses companies established. Hope other countries would help Cuba in difficult times.

If Communism is such a failed economic system, why the need for a blockade? Why not step back and let Cuba collapse under her own weight? In light of the fact there’s been a blockade for 50 plus years, shouldn’t it have failed by now, if Communism was so bad?

Cubans live longer than Americans, have a higher literacy rate, a lower infant mortality rate, they eat mostly organically produced foods grown within their towns and cities via organoponic worker owned and gov owned co-ops and they have healthcare for all and strong communities. They are one of a handful of nations that have doubled their economy and added 30% to their population over the last 50 years without using more Co2 per person to do so. What they don't have is lead in their water and a homelessness and opioid addiction epidemic.

Not bad Castro, not bad at all.

Growing up, I was taught that Castro was an evil man. That he had evil ideology, and that his goals were horrible. Then, I realize that the system that taught me of Castro was misleading me, along with the others within the academic system. That Castro, his ideals, his revolution (the people revolution really), and what he wanted was not in fact evil, but simply against the exploitive, imperial, capitalistic desires of the Americans and the West. Forever rest in power, Fidel Castro. Truly a person of the people.

The interviewer was so disingenuous, the first 17 minutes were basically him asking the same question over and over again.

“Do you side with the soviet union over the US because of their aid to you”

”Would the Soviet Union withhold aid if you pursued better relations with the US”

“Would the Soviet Union like it if you pursued better relations with the US”

He was so clearly trying to get Fidel to say that it would harm Cuban relations with the Soviet Union, so that they could make a stupid headline like “Bad Evil meany Cuban dictator says Cuba a Soviet colony” or something like that

I love the imagery of Castro lighting up a pipe and enjoying it, 1000% charisma, as the reporter just stumbles over himself about 'Washington talking about human rights in Cuba, ' repeating himself. You are missed, Fidel, you were a hero in every sense of the word!

This man spoke the truth about the hipocracy of the United States foreign policy.

Fidel Castro is missed. He was a brilliant human being and a good revolutionary. I count seeing him speak in Revolution Square one of the highlights of my whole life. Gracias, Fidel!!!!

This man had a greater love for African people more than almost all of US Presidents during his life time.

Unlike most American presidents, Castro like here actually thought deeply about things. Worked on and had an actual political vision. Not like the corporate puppets in the White House.

Like him or not it doesn't matter. What matters is that he did things his way and he dared the greatest superpower ever to "come get me"! And the USA responded with a murderous and cowardly Embargo!

Rest in Power Fidel. This man cared about the people. I wish we could bring the change he speaks of to the US. ¡Viva la revolucion!

One thing I enjoy about these old interviews is, as time goes by, how fucking transparent the ideological framing and questions gets.
Anyway Fidel was a giant, totally frank and direct and ballsy, history will prove him right. The translator is great too.

Typically arrogant and often stupid questions -- and this is the most reasonable journalism in American media!
