He’s 100% correct about 4 years not being enough time to implement any good changes. All presidents are worried about their first term is getting re-elected.

He was a strong leader who stood by his beliefs and principles. He’s adored by many Cubans for a reason and his example will live on for a long time.

"I think four years is too short for any serious program you want to undertake." I think that's quite true tho. To be fair, even though democracy is for the people I think 4 years is still too short for a President or Prime minister to do almost anything with many opposition in the government.

I love how even though the interviews are cut up to present Castro as unfavorably as they possibly could, the truth of his words still shine through. Love in particular when he talks about how he has nothing to hide, but slander against socialism is not allowed by the party, the government or the people. I also love when he says that if he truly were the obstacle behind Cuba's embargo he'd give up not only his position but also his life, but he'd never negotiate the revolution. Just a fantastic person all around, he's dearly missed.

I like how they just casually omits the part where he presumably explains what the term "freedom of the press" means to Cubans, and maybe indulges on how American "freedom of the press" basically equates to freedom of the American corporate media to feed lies and misinformation to the American people.

There a small mistake of translation at 0:58. The subtitle says "Ok", but the translator actually said "¿por qué?" (in spanish), he was in fact translating Barbara Walters' "why?".

I saw glimpses of this interview as a kid. I had a pretty bad perception of Castro and remember the part where he's saying he doesn't allow freedom of the press and Barbara going WHY?!? and El Commandante Fidel's answer. Was. Spot. On. Fucjing brilliant. An ear-to-ear smile on my face came about to that answer. Equality and anti-imperialism ARE non negotiable. Patria o Muerte.
