EU sanctions on Russia explained

The first set of EU sanctions (‘restrictive measures’) against Russia were adopted in March 2014, following Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, and its support for a separatist insurgency in eastern Ukraine.

Outraged by Russia’s illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, European Union countries swiftly adopted unprecedentedly tough sanctions, in close cooperation with partners including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Japan. The rapid succession of ten packages of EU sanctions adopted since then (by February 2023), in what has already been labelled a ‘sanctions revolution’, have resulted in an unparalleled set of measures targeting the key sectors of the Russian economy and the political elites. New sanctions have also been adopted against Belarus and Iran, in response to their involvement in Russia’s war of aggression.

How's that going for you??? My husband, who works in the industry says that UK car companies can't ship car parts abroad to have engines built and tested by their partners because they can't validate exactly where the metal has come from. Specifically that it hasn't come from Russia. So putting multi million pound engine projects at risk. Yeah, really hitting Russia hard I see.

Controversy brews as the US resumes Russian oil imports amid sanctions.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US imported 36, 800 barrels of Russian oil in October and 9, 900 barrels in November, worth $2.7 million and $749, 500, respectively. The imports were made possible by specific licenses granted by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which oversees the enforcement of sanctions.

It’s seems to have a reverse effect, Germany is now in a recession and so will the rest of Europe soon. Inflation will get worse and working class will suffer as a result of higher cost of food. All those elected officials better prepare for this coming election whether they will still be voted.
