She appeared on Broadway, in Las Vegas, and in films with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, and those are just a few of her accomplishments. This is my introduction video to Vera-Ellen, the beginning of a series of videos to acquaint you with this extraordinarily talented artist whose career and personal life were both fascinating and tragic. This was lovely 💓 I've always been obsessed with movies, actors, dancers and music from this era. The longing in songs from during WW2 is palpable, and no music from today conveys such heartbreak imo. The innocence and simplicity of Life in movies from that time makes me nostalgic for a time I didn't even live through.

I first noticed her in her movie with Gene Kelly and others called On the Town. It has turned out to be one of my all-time favorite feel-good movie, the kid they stopped making years ago. I was amazed by her figure and her incredible flexibility. Her modern dance scene is incredible!

I became an admirer of Vera Ellen when I first saw White Christmas on TV. I was 12 years old. I don't think there is another screen dancer besides Vera Ellen who is accomplished in all the dance forms...ballet, tap, jazz, modern, gymnastics as well. Maybe Eleanor Powell, but few wanted to see Eleanor Powell in ballet even though she was a trained ballet dancer. Tap was Miss Powell's claim to fame. But Vera Ellen could do it all and do it well.

I will never claim Vera-Ellen was the best film dancer in history. But I will argue there were none better....male or female! I suppose the mystery, sadness and tragedy surrounding her is making me a bit obsessed about someone who has been dead for over 40 years. However I think there are few more like me out here. Good job...patiently waiting for the next episode.
