The Sound Couple - Venue has house sound and lights?

The Sound Couple supports one of their favorite bands for a fundraiser event. When we arrive, we discover that the venue has an installed sound and light system that we were unaware of. We can't assume that this means it's available and the gigs are contracted to provide sound and lights. However, in some cases, it makes sense to ask questions when the logistics call for it. The space was tight and to use the house lights made a lot of sense. We didn't pursue the house sound, but the house lighting was a logical choice if possible. Truth is though, that we spent more time getting the lighting to work than it took us to simply use ours.

Tonight was a trial of putting the entire band on in-ears. They are in the process of budgeting for their own, but in the meantime, we are trying out some of our gear to start the transition. For in-ear mixes, we used the following:

We love our DeWalt MobileLock which busts Stacy going into the van!

We use primarily PreSonus gear featuring:
PreSonus UC Surface
PreSonus CDL12
PreSonus CDL18s
PreSonus 32R
PreSonus SW5E
PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
PreSonus AVB-D16

I thought it was a great mix especially for the horn section. It really brought out that they were quality players working off good charts.

Just discovered you on YouTube this weekend and I've been binging your content. Keep up the postmortem sections at the end they are great learning experiences for your viewers and prove that most situations apply to all of us. (like musicians reactions to in-ears!; I am a bass player but also responsible for the band's sound when budget doesn't permit for skilled sound engineers.)

Thank you for this video. I just came across your page and love the content! I come from a performer background, and am making a leap to step into live sound reinforcement. It's certainly a lot more time consuming than the end I used to be on. Keep up the amazing work!

You're one of the few people other than me who brings the Internet with them. everybody I ran into likes to run an isolated Network. Maybe it's just because I have Apple devices and they freak out when there's no Internet or maybe it's just that I like to be able to look things up between breaks.
Yes I also consider my audiovisual Control network to be a private Network and don't necessarily let others on unless absolutely necessary, I even have a guest network that's separate and isolated. Yes data is pricey, I got lucky and landed on a plan with Sprint that I think was 50GB with rollover and at some point they upped it to 100GB and now I can barely make a dent. It does have benefits like having all my devices connected they tend to go through less battery when they're not constantly searching for cell service.

Yep musicians love the personal mixers but they forget that they needed they'll learn how to mix which is entirely another art form. I like the headphone amplifier method better because then you still have the ability to pop into that AUX send and adjust things if needed. unfortunately then that requires some sort of tablet control device, I wish these companies would get this and make it an extension of the main mixers AUX's.
I worked with a band with the Behringer system but there's this level of complexity that it is not visible on the surface of the thing and you can't really see what's where.

Does that nighthawk ever have any issues?? I need a Wi-Fi hub to run Sereto DJ. Haven’t decided the best route yet.

Are the donner housings plastic or metal. Seems like you got the last ones as there aren't any in amazon anymore :D Also I noticed you cut off the lows on the graphic EQ rather than using the dedicated low pass filter? Is there a certain reason for this?

Me again! Lol.... so when you are using the ear mix controllers and someone wants wireless, do you have to run the cat5 to the box then go back to a wireless transmitter in a rack somewhere with long trs cables? I only ask cause I am trying to accomplish this as well with the behringer gear and I built little custom boxes with the wireless units and the ear mix boxes on a stand, does that make sense? LMK. P.s. Another great video! Thanks for taking the time.

Wounding why you did'nt use the venues house system it would of been alot easier for you I am also thinking of purchasing some Presonus CDL 12's and sub's I also seen a video where you had a Presonus Studiolive 3 Sc rackmount and your Yamaha Spx990 and what were the other components in your rack? Thinking of putting together a small protable rig like that I am hearing great stories about the CDL 12's and I like watching your videos and your setup is more compact then lugging a huge rig like the one I have. I have an L-Acoustic Kara Line Arrays and sub's with L-Acoustic LA8 4 ch digital amp rack with 4 LA 8's running 6 Kara Line Arrays per side. Foh console I am running a Digico SD8 48ch digital console and a Midas Heritage 2000 48 ch analog console with Klark Teknik graphic eq's with qcs powered stage wedges for monitors. The main house system I have sound awesome but for bar gigs to big to lug lol.
