Is plastic recycling effective?

A Houston program funded in large part by oil and plastic producers claims to recycle any type of plastic. CBS News senior national and environmental correspondent Ben Tracy has more on his investigation into the program's claims.

Even if any plastic could be recycled, the report of how much plastic is in us and in all living things should be reason enough to ban all plastic. We are at a point where this stuff is in us for life, and the effects are still unknown.

We need to re-use plastic containers, and glass containers. If they are broken or no longer good, they can be recycled. The plastic industry better get together and figure out how they are going to make all plastic recyclable.

Recycling is a scam. A lot of stuff people put out on the curb doesn’t even get recycled. Look at all the water wasted rinsing out containers, the fuel the trucks use to pick up your recyclables, etc.

They'll find out that the chemicals they use to break down this plastics during advanced recycling are toxic when recycled or released from vehicles who use this new recycled gas

We should be using Bio-plastics from Hemp, Algae, etc. Due to microplastics causing health defects interrupting genetics...

Almost all of my Snapple and Coke bottles say, “Made with 100% recycled plastic”. Are they lying?

Most plastics cannot be recycled so why don’t they use them as fuel to generate electricity like they do in some Scandinavian countries?

First of all Recycling is not enforced, secondly, if you REALLY want to make a difference, when you go to the grocery store, you should bring all liquid containers back from your house (cleaned) to refill them from 55 gallon drums, no more new packaging. Give people a year, then no more.

Liquid detergents
Liquid dish and hand soap
All liquid cleaning products

Maple syrup
Chocolate syrup
Etc.

Glass bottles for Milk, juice, soda and water.

I'm a plumber by trade and I was saying plastic was bad 20 years ago plastic is the new lead know we are finding microplastics in bottled water and in our sea food I have seen people get sick in my trade from plastic water pipes not good

Also, those five-cent bags aren’t there because retailers are green. Five-cent grocery bags and $1 reusable bags bring them more revenue than giving away the bags for free.

Recycling stoped when China stoped buying it. Nothing ever been recycled, just send to third world countries like China, who stoped buying it when they became rich.
