You can accomplish that using tank water before an entry team can be assembled, get fully dressed and get the front door open to even think about crawling into the thick, black smoke in an unfamiliar house.

Firefighters need to bail out of windows when they don't bring a charged line into the burning building to extinguish, cool and protect themselves, the victims and the structure. A tunnel vision focus on saving someone puts everyone at risk. What good was that firefighter doing who had to bail out and stop searching?

It's interesting that you never EVER hear a chief discuss the tactics that were used to fight the fire and perform a search. You don't learn anything from hearing about the hero stuff. They always talk about finding the cause of the fire instead.
