Most people who still want a new Rolex probably aren't really watch people. They just know the name and want something they think someone else will perceive as expensive or a status symbol. I personally think most real watch people see Omega as more credible than Rolex nowadays, because of the shitty Rolex AD's attitudes.

Ultimately Nico made a mistake here. Trashing Omega owners is not a good idea as they are probably 40 percent, if not more, of the people likely to watch, follow and do business with his company. In regards to comments about family's and Omegas, there is probably something truthful there.

My maternal great-grandad received one of the first lunar samples for study in my country. His pocket watch was a Brandt.

His daughter, my maternal grandmother would wear an omega in her later years.

My paternal grandad wore his omega constellation for 30+ years as his daily watch.

My dad had an 80's seamaster quartz.

I bought my first omega in college.

My son graduates next week, and waiting for him is an omega as well.

Now that I'm closing the gap on the horizon of the half-century mark, I don't think rolex would have made the same journey. The other day I was looking at a friend's first-generation yachtmaster; and thinking about how little wrist time it's had. We both purchased our timepieces roughly the same time and it felt cold, unlived in, lacking a part of his life's path.

The Rolex brand has some exotic, some classic, some lovely, some brilliant, and some not-so lovely or brilliant pieces.

This passion for collecting isn't solely about the cost/value, there is also the value/history/connection. A connection my kin, for one reason or another, just do not have with Mr. Wilsdorf's company's legacy as we do with Louis Brandt's company legacy.
