Abandoned DISNEY THEME PARK | When Disney Fails!

Popeye Village, also known as Sweethaven Village, is a purpose-built film set village that has been converted into a small attraction fun park, consisting of a collection of rustic and ramshackle wooden buildings. It is located at Prajjet Bay/Anchor Bay, 3 km (2 mi) from the village core of Mellieħa, Malta.

It was built as a film set for the production of the 1980 live-action musical feature film Popeye, produced by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions starring Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. It is open to the public as an open-air museum and seaside resort.

This is so cool. I didn’t know Robin Williams played Popeye. I love him as an actor. RIP Robin. I actually live near the Spinach Capital. They have a Popeyes statue that was once stolen, but found.

If you love this village, you should come to the UK and visit Beamish in the North East. It's a history museum with houses and other buildings relocated to their new home. Everyone who works there dresses in period clothing and does period jobs.

This is so nostalgic to me! As a kid I used to go to Birthday parties at the Popeyes theme park and I totally remember the bumping cars, tea cups and if I also remember correctly there was a small roller coaster too, so sad to see them gone and abandoned. At Christmas time the mini golf is really popular. Pre Pandemic when Malta was full of tourists this place was packed. Love you had the courage to go out on your own. You are an inspiration :) stay safe and keep enjoying Malta

When I was younger, the old abandoned place/dump was actually being used. There used to be an active 'roller-coaster' that's for sure but it was sketchy as fuck. The merry go round was active too! Before it became popular and the place advanced to be a beach, we used to make sleepovers there and go on adventures at night. I swear Popeye's Village at night is somewhat haunted, how scared we was back then lol

Oh my dude, that Popeye film featuring the late and great Robin Williams is a classic and it was pretty big. I'm so jealous you got to go! Thank you for taking us with you!

Oh man, that has changed quite a bit. When I was there in the 1990s, the place was much more deserted than it is today. The village was only used as a fishing bay and boating area after the shoot. There was a wreck in the bay. The houses were empty, only a few dolls were standing around. The paths were not paved. Behind the post office there used to be a mine that was walkable. The houses were not as colorful as today, rather gray in gray, but always so curved. The abandoned fun park will have been added later. Maybe sometime in the 2000s.
But in Malta there are now several film locations of Troy, Game of Thrones, Gladiator, U-571 or The Count of Monte Cristo. Was in any case a great video, thanks for showing.

Never knew I wanted to travel to Malta but the Popeye's Theme Park! What!? That's so awesome. I loved Popeye as a kid. My dad was a sailor so I was obsessed.

@17:21 replying to your comment :) what you see there are old theme parks that were used early 2000, the site where they are at is only used to store old props. The props were originally situated where you enter the theme park today. Such memories when i used to work there as a student at the age of 16. I used to take care of the water bumping cars, the electrical motorbikes and damm they had very heavy batteries when their power ran out and needed to recharge. Also there was a mini train and tracks that i used to take care of and kids used to ride in it :) i am 39 nowadays, so most props there are vintage
