The plaintiff went to dinner at the defendant’s restaurant, and her expensive jacket was stolen. She’s suing for the cost of the jacket. The defendant argues he has a coat rack in the restaurant and it’s not his fault if something gets taken.

I noticed that too that nowadays people seem to think they have to be told about everything even how to blow their nose without taking any personal responsibility for themselves. It wasn't her fault that her coat got stolen but Common Sense should have told her that when you're leaving it out in the open like that something might happen. The owner was nice enough to even offer her coupons when he didn't have to do anything at all. She kind of seemed a little greedy and dare I say it dumb.

This was ridiculous 😂 Lady, it's not really 'the law', it's freaking common sense!!! Wearing a $650 coat to a pizza joint and expecting someone to watch it is entitlement at its finest. If my hubs got me something like that, I'd not let it out of my hands, much less my sight.

I knew the plaintiff was going to lose in the first 10 seconds. This isn't a hard concept, if you go to a restaurant they have a duty to serve you food that is not going to make you ill and to make sure the facilities are clean. They aren't a secure storage facility. If you go the dry cleaner and your coat gets stolen that's another issue and the cleaners would be responsible. Not hard to understand.

5:40 The judge was on point with her statement! It's the norm that people don't take responsibility for their actions when it's clear they're putting themselves in a bad position. Someone should not have to tell you to watch where you're going if you are about to walk over a cliff.
True story; I saw a man walking across a street not paying attention and looking at his cell phone, while a truck that had the right of way made a left-hand turn. The driver was in the middle of his turn and the idiot walked into the SIDE OF THE TRUCK. He wasn't hurt he just bounced off the truck. Later on, I found out he sued the driver and won. I was pissed!
