Malice Review! || Worldhoppers Secret Santa! || There Are Vikings || Faithful and the Fallen #1

I review a top book of my Secret Recipient, Lezlie! Malice is the first book in the Faithful and the Fallen Quartet by John Gwynne and it is fantastic, though don't let them lie to you and tell you it's not about vikings because it definitely is.

Come on, Allen — your inner Viking is just waiting to emerge! Traditional and classic but not dense, and with the author’s distinct imprint — sounds pretty darn good. Looking forward to discussing this with you!

I'll probably watch this about a dozen times. Hearing your excitement and energy about some of my favorite characters gives me all the warm and fuzzy feels. It makes me remember the emotions I cycled through when I read this beloved series and I am so excited to hear about the rest of your journey through this series.
TRUTH AND COURAGE! ⚔️🐺

I didn’t know anything about this book before your video, but now I know it’s about vikings

I think the first book was good but oh man does it just get better and better. I would agree with the bullying scenes but all I can say is there really is a reason for everything said and done throughout this series.

I believe the term is "secret child." The receiver of Satan's gift. Lezlie is your secret child.

Never got any viking-vibes from this book. I really enjoyee Malice, especially Corban and Cywen's perspective. The book ended on such cliffhangers that I really need to get my hands on Valour

I just finished this yesterday. Great review. The “Huh” would throw me off as well. I don’t agree, though, that Corban sees himself as special or the “Chosen One”. Gar, Miechal, Thannon and his mom know something about him, his “specialness”, that we the readers and Corban do not know yet. Either way, love your reviews and I look forward to continuing on with Valor after I finish Grave Peril. I am reading The Dresden Files & The Faithful and the Fallen simultaneously. By the way, I love your Dungeons and Dragons tie-ins. Truth and Courage!!! 🤓

Totally agree with most of your points.I read Malice and Valor back to back a year back and then some how got lost in other series. Finished re reading Malice recently, will be definitely completing the series by 2021. One point is that the reader should not start with super high expectation and compare to ASOIAF/others.. Because this is an unique experience - an engaging accessible and truly enjoyable fantasy series !

Sometimes it is kind of discomforting if someone/something leaves a crack in your disliking. Isn't it? 'Hey, what are you doing with my carefully architectured and beloved dislike?' It is like getting a gift or a praise from a person you don't like. I tend to embrace my dislikings almost as much as my friends. I have a feeling that next year Abercrombies group of northmen will mess with your dislike of Vikings as well Allen.

I think it's more about the Celts than the Vikings.

This is one of my favorite series, I am on book 4 now. It can start off pretty tropey, but he takes them in unexpected directions. Gwynne isn't afraid to kill characters, you are in for a ride if you continue the series.

Ps. I didn't think of them as vikings, but like Welsh or Scottish type kingdoms.

Okay, so I found you for the first time on one of the Worldhoppers videos, and thought you were hilarious! Then I come to your channel and you have a review of my all-time favorite series! This was such a great review, and I loved hearing you talk about all the characters I hold so close to my heart! I can't wait to see what you think of the rest =]

Yes vikings are not Heroes that was my sticking point for getting the series but I eventually did

I love Malice, but the rest of the series is way better. Books 2-4 are amazing, and each one is better than the last.

I'm so glad you're finally in The Banished Lands!! This is a top 3 series for me of all time and the last 200 pages of Ruin might be my favorite 200 pages I've ever read. TRUTH AND COURAGE

I enjoyed this book but I'm not sure I liked it enough to continue the series. I struggled with the characters all feeling too similar. Its one of those where I'd be happy to keep reading but there are so many other things I want to read more. I'm interested to see if you continue the books and enjoy it.

I really enjoyed the start of this series but I read all four books within a month and the final two books felt a little too much of the same story beats. I probably would have liked the series more if I spaced it better but I didn't. I'm taking a long break between this series and sequel series to try and see if it makes the world fresh again.

12:17 exactly 😂. In the beginning I kept imagining Corban as a 10year old kid then I had to remind myself again no he is a teenage boy

Lollll "superb minus" I like your rating scale

Thank you for the helpful review! The worldbuilding sounds so cool. I really want to love Malice bc LEZLIE ❤ But Gwynne's focus doesn't sound quite right for me 😬
