Показать описание
Al Ain, Abu Dhabi is home to some of the most fascinating historic forts in the UAE, such as Al Jahili Fort.
Come to Al Ain, Abu Dhabi’s famous garden city! When you visit the UAE you’ll be able to explore myriad heritage attractions, from famous museums to historical forts. For the ultimate culture trip, a visit to Al Ain is a must. Al Ain is just 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi city and it boasts UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well as one of the largest forts in the UAE, Al Jahili Fort.
Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain was built in the 1890s, on the orders of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan – the founding father of the UAE – as the home to members of the ruling Al Nahyan family. Since opening its gates in 2008, Al Jahili Fort has been a focal point of activities associated with the philosophy, culture and heritage of Abu Dhabi. It will definitely be a highlight on your UAE trip and is a must-see when you come to Al Ain.
Between 2007 and 2008 the fort was impeccably restored by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. Transformed into a cultural centre and tourist attraction, it now houses a permanent exhibition devoted to Sir Wilfred Thesiger, the intrepid explorer, travel writer and photographer who, with his Emirati and Omani companions, crossed the world's largest sand mass, the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali), twice in the 1940s. Al Jahili Fort is also home to a temporary exhibition gallery. Surrounded by a lush park, this enchanting fort won the prestigious Terra Award for Internal Design and Layout in 2016.
So, if you want to explore more of the UAE and its incredible history, then book your UAE trip today. If you’re planning to visit Dubai, put together your list of places to visit in Dubai, then before or after your Dubai trip make your way to Abu Dhabi.
