After I got a few air plants, my phalanopsis orchid started putting out LOTS of aerial roots (coincidentally, no connection with the acquiring of air plants.) When I investigated, I found that the orchid's covered roots had died, so I just cut it loose and began taking care of it the same way I take care of my air plants. It is doing very well with a weekly soak in water, (monthly addition of orchid fertilizer) air dry on a towel and then set back into its substrate-less container (a strawberry planter) hovering over about an inch of water for humidity. I am really thinking that this may be the best way to keep a phalanopsis. I'd love to see some videos on creatively keeping phalanopsis as an air plant.
