The problem is always people buying stuff at every price asked. They don't buy, AMD will lower the price.

mining has very clearly went to amd and nvidia's heads and now that they had a taste of it they cant and wont let it go. they didnt see it as a temporary boon. they used it as an opportunity to raise prices. they should rebrand and advertise the cards as mining cards and not gaming cards...

AMD really screwed the pooch this gen. They had a chance to put the hurt on Nvidia's ridiculous pricing of the 4080. Not only did they price the 7900xtx $100 too high and the 7900xt at least $100 too high, the reference cards have qc issues. If they'd have delivered a good 7900xtx card at $300 less than the 4080, Nvidia would be forced to compete price wise. I had planned on buying a 7900xtx, but I need a small gpu for my itx, and the reference coolers suck, so I ended up buying a used 3080 today for $430. Hopefully the market will straighten itself out for the 50 series.

I don't know if intel gpu's can save the gpu space at this point, but I will say this, another prime example of why the gpu space needs more competition.

They can try to avoid shipping GPUs, but that doesn’t mean people will buy what’s on the shelf.

Just picked up a 4090 FE today in the UK for MSRP. Stock only lasted 3 hours. Returning my Suprim X to get £283 back :D

I've noticed that a lot of companies from a lot of different product segments are transitioning to a business model of higher prices/profit and lower volume and smaller customer base. Overall this equates to similar profit but requires less materials, staff, factory workers, shipping resources, warranty obligations etc. Basically many industries are colluding with each other to raise perceived value of brands and increase prices as much as they possibly can. Wouldn't be surprised to see 4090 level gpus for next gen selling for over $5000.

People praised AMD when Ryzen came out, little did we know that Intel was the real hero all along, keeping both AMD and NVidia in check, with the Intel A750 being now a good value and a competitive option, I really hope Intel succeeds with Battlemage in the mid-end. I ordered myself a 6700 XT for 480 euros (520 USD) because i'm not waiting a couple more years, i really wish to retire my 1050 TI, but i'll watch Intel's battle from afar

In a competitive market, if you don't lower prices to maintain healthy sales as they slow down from launch, someone else will step in and steal your potential customers. In an oligopoly, if people don't want to pay the oligarchs' asking price anymore, they reduce supply to create artificial scarcity and maintain inflated prices since there is nobody who can step in and undercut them. I do hope consumers will hold onto their cash long and hard enough for AMD, Nvidia and Intel to a lesser extent to get the message about having exceeded prices the real post-COVID, post-crypto market can bear.

pretty sure they already limited how many GPUs they shipped...couldn't get a 7900xtx so now I have a 4080.

I feel like there's more to it than what they said. I'm sure they had to go back and check all of their gpus after the whole 110 degree issue.

How are the GPU's mounted to the wall, sir? share your secrets! I'd buy some cheap, garbage GPU's just to have this aesthetic.

But, but, but AMD are the good guys... Said no one ever who has common sense and understands how business works.

They are price fixing between each other (Nvidia and AMD) I would bet money on it. They both benefit from higher prices and want to keep them as high as they can both get away with it's a win/win for both sides. Oh and the difference in gaming between the most expensive new X3D CPU's and the least expensive will probably be minimal, so they don't want want to release the cheapest and best value one first...

Problem is these companies sell to more profitable sectors in tech, when you can use the same amount of silicon to make 3-4 times more!

It makes me wonder if there is some kind of "Supreme Leader" running both AMD and Nvidia behind-the-scenes and he/she just got greedy.

Maybe it's easier to see things from the outside, but it just baffles me how shortsighted some companies are these days. It would seem obvious that delighting your customer is the key to long-term success, but execs and shareholders don't really seem to care. Maybe they figure they'll just earn their quick fortunes and dip out, leaving the hurting company and industry as someone else's problem.
