SM’s etiquette lessons are so famous that there’s literally the “SM stance” that every single idol under that company has drilled into them.

SM’s been pretty lenient when it comes to phones and privacy nowadays.

There is nothing inherently wrong in most of these rules, the wrong ones are pretty obvious for everybody.
The real problem to me is that, with the things they go through when training, I think they develop a "hate" for music and a "hunger" for money and power and that hurts their career and the products they make (in terms of music).

If they trained them with love and love for music, Kpop we know today would be so different.

Its not only SM who have these kind of rules other companies also have these kind of rules and you have to follow them its really hard to stay in kpop industry and follow rules being set by companybut i wish best for them

Being honest SM did pretty good with aespa and letting them be a little more free then other idols in the industry. And the rules were so good might even try them myself with my siblings! :)

Kpop industry is difficult. If you are someone who can't persevere training yourself to be flawless, you might think every company rule is too much. But these tough trainings and all, it is also made to make sure that you won't screw up. Knetz are very sensitive, even the slightest mistake, even your body shape, color of your skin, if you are in standards-- Knetz can see it and will make fuzz about it. You can never be a normal person when you debut. SM somehow at some point gives their artists discipline and a bit of free will and if they do mistakes, they must be responsible. SM is not perfect and also screw up many times but SM is very inclusive.

I'm actually kinda surprised how less awful SM is with rules, like no actually forced dieting just "strongly encouraged"(trainees often diets anyways..) and dating surprises me the most, I mean I still think it's dumb that they have to hide it, but they are actually allowed to date, "just" in secret and within the company

Edit: OMG THE DORM RULES WHY ARE AESPA SO ADORABLE?!

I respect aespa for being so hardworking. I'm glad they debuted together

All of those sound so horrid when you put it that way. But in this day and era where a simple text can be manipulated into something negative, i kinda understand the measures that SM takes to set some boundaries, especially for new groups. For older groups i guess the rules aren't so strict because by then they've already learned from experiences and probably mistakes. As for the harsh training system, i guess it's in the culture itself. Korea is known for their hard working ethics and is what made their kpop artist as successful as today...

I started liking kpop at 9 and after a year I started wanting to become a kpop idol, I kinda started wanting to become a kpop idol I started changing my mind after a while but the more I become better at singing and dancing and also I still really wanna be a k-pop idol but my family will never be ok with it if they aren’t even allowing me to be a fashion designer like they would never ever agree with me being in the industry of singer dancers ect especially the k-pop industry because they think it’s another type of dancing and stuff.

If you're an sm stan you probably know that sm artists are the most respectful and most discipline artists when it comes on stage or award show, the way they put their hands in front or back.

Giselle openly said she uses Twitter.sm doesn't allow them to live but they use social media as they wish. Giselle said she has an account that looks like a fan account and follows her fan pages. aespa is always on social media in general and is aware of what's going on. as long as they're not busy. other than that, SM is actually pretty free compared to other companies. SM doesn't fire their idols when they date or marry someone. Unlike some companies, they allow girl group members to write lyrics and produce. Of course there are rules, but sometimes I think it's seriously exaggerated and people are intimidated.
There are famous trainees who stayed in SM for 10 years but they never spoke badly of SM. If so, how can these people stay in this company for 10 years? SM follows the rules that every company does, but not like the others. male and female trainees can spend time together comfortably. Their idols are always close to each other. yes it's hard to be in big company but they become super famous and their efforts pay off. sometimes SM idols openly voice their grievances. I don't think SM is as bad as other companies. Hard practice is normal. If you want stable vocals during the dance, you have to.

One thing I like about SM is him not enforcing a dating ban on his idols. Like imagine a CEO telling you “ Hey we wouldn’t want you to date for sometimes because you guys are starting out, but if you do end up dating just don’t get caught or dating inside the company.”

I got into kpop in 2015..back then i used to think that the kpop industry is such a happy place...but it only took me 1-2 months to realize how bad it is..It's like a company selling their products... Man...i wish they Were treated better.

In my opinion, compared to other companies like JYP, Cube, Pledis, YG ect SM is actually quite lenient. Yes vigorous training and the singing while running bla bla bla but those rules are what made SM group the best in each generation of K-pop. And the singing while running or push ups made sense. Like have you heard these idols? It trains their breath control when dancing and obviously it works. Even their rappers could be main vocalist because their vocals are just so stable. Compared to DBSK/TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD and SHINee era, the new systems are better and more lenient. I'm a first gen fan aka HOT and BoA era and I've seen how bad the system were back then. And the dating one just make sense and SM is known to be cool with dating. Like so far, SM just confirm or deny. They never ignore it like YG or throw people out like Cube or kick their artist out when dating a non idol person ahem ahem. They let their idols start a family for goodness sake like Chen. The man even had second baby now which good for you baby daddy. Not bad SM. Hell Idm if I had to train 12 hours and sing while running 100miles if that was the case. Plus SM only picked the best.

I get the phone issue, because it can be a distraction. When I’m training it is super important to pay attention. These night life stuff is good for them because if something happens it can ruin their reputation. They don’t want that especially if they just started to debut
