The Manatee is the only animal i know that truly doesn't give a shiet. They will swim right up to ANYTHING with zero fear of their safety and check it out. They've came up to me fishing on the shore several times

I did a manatee encounter in Cancun (actually Isla Mujeres) in January, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. They are truly gentle giants, and ate lettuce out of our hands, loved belly rubs, and just seemed to enjoy the experience themselves.

I have always said the reason manatees get a pass from crocs and gators is lack of fear. They just swim by them like nothing is there. Fear and panic seems to be one of the key factors to activating most predators hunting instincts.

Such cool critters. They, dugongs, and the extinct Stellar's sea cow (which lived in the Bering Sea and were sadly hunted to extinction within about a century of being introduced to science in the 18th century) are close relatives of elephants. Their ancestors used to have legs, they lived on what is Jamaica today and walked around on four stocky, hoofed limbs. This genus was called Pezosiren.

Manatee swim that close to alligators, and alligators don't attack them. Wow! Manatee are real brave.

They don't only live where fresh and saltwater meet. They live in springs as well....Manatee Springs, Fl is a great example.

They are a blessing to swim with!!

Dang ya learn something new everyday I didn't know anything about this it's amazing how they can just swim and bump into them gators without any response that goes to show you that everyone can get along if gators and manatees can do it so can we❤
