Why isn’t gator attacking you?!?!

“Why isn’t he attacking you?!” Is the number one question I get, I’ve answered it a bajillion times, but here’s another talk about it since it’s asked so often!! The gators I work with are NOT raised in captivity, I didn’t raise any from babies and they’re caught from the wild generally as big as you see them now, they’re not fed before interactions or kept “full”, they’re not sedated, it’s JUST TRAINING!

You can come swim with me and Casper! I have tour openings this Friday and Saturday! We keep everything in low numbers and Covid safe. The tours have always been very small private groups anyways so it fits into the current guidelines, and we will be following CDC guidelines.

.

Let me know if you want to go!! Share the water with alligators in a safe and controlled environment! This is done safely at the Everglades Outpost Wildlife Rescue in Homestead, Fl. It is for people of any skill level, you don’t have to be scuba certified, just have an interest in wildlife! This is a no contact experience! Observation and photos only at @evergladesoutpost

"If I looked like I was dead, he'd come over and investigate me"

That would make him an investigator

I like how throughout the video he just mills around like
“are you still talking to that rock? damn”
“oh food? sick”
“seriously what is that rock you’re carrying around for”

Kinda really interesting to see the guy say '' Casper, come here '' and the gator just casually stopped and slowly turned towards him. Pretty cool

A lot of creatures are suddenly a lot cuter when you know they aren't going to attack you.

I'm glad u said trained not tamed. Always remember no matter how many years you have with an animal they can tear your flesh apart at any moment and you'll never know why.

Out of experience, I can definitely agree with you about wild animals being trained, not tamed. Through the years, I learned that the animals I trained would definitely murder me if they could. I’ve been injured more than once, I've been hunted at and toyed with, scratched, even bitten several times. But at the end of the day, I never regret getting a pair of house cats.

Casper’s like, “I been working on this human for 13 years now and he is feeling really safe” 😂😂😂

"Look how cute he is"
That is a frickin aquatic beast belonging to the species that survived millions of years on this planet, and is still feared by many for good reason

Uncle worked for a long time at a big cat rescue and said it was the same to form bonds, simple -- give them respect and distance, you can't force a relationship but you can plant the seed and nurture it. Most aggressive displays are actually defensive, they see you as a threat, not as food, so it's about making yourself non-threatening.

He is so calm explaining how the alligator next to him could eat him 💀💀

He’s an amazing trainer. He has trained this guy to feed him every day.

Theres a certain magic in a bond with a creature that could likely overwhelm and kill you at any moment but chooses not to because of that bond. Fascinating and heartwarming.

Love how he does explain that, if given the circumstances, the gator would eat him. It's good to acknowledge that, no matter how gentle a wild animal will be, they're still wild animals in nature.

Wow. That's more knowledge about gator's that I learned in 7 minutes than I've learned in my entire 47 years. Great upload!

People tend to underestimate just how intelligent gators and Crocs are. Casper is fully aware that you are just food that brings him more food. He really gets the don't bite the hand that feeds you mantra.
