Those miners recently travelled to Santiago to pay their respects at President Piñera's funeral who died tragically in a helicopter accident.

At first i thought that they could have drilled through the big boulder but i think the boulder did alot more damage to the tunnels than described in the video.

What is amazing about this is not that it was pulled off... It is that so many experts pooled their talent and proceeded with an open mind. Similar mentality to Skunkworks and the SR-71. Expediting formalities with the understanding people know what they are doing can create some amazing things!

Worth noting that while this was an amazing story and show of survival, it didn't have a happy ending for everybody. I remember hearing much later about how one of the miners had a mental breakdown because of how much attention they had recieved during the rescue, only to essentially be forgotten about practically overnight. It's kind of a great example of how hazardous being a celebrity or influencer has on one's health - these 33 men had the attention of billions of human beings over the course of their rescue and were aware about that for a good chunk of the time they were down there. And like many things that happen on TV, once the big finish happened everyone went on with their lives and completely forgot about them. Imagine having that kind of spotlight for even a month only to suddenly be ignored. Sounds really harrowing.

I'm glad that those men got out, but I really do feel sorry for all of them for what happened after.
