The 33 - in theaters November 13th.

---
From Alcon Entertainment and Phoenix Pictures comes the unforgettable true story of “The 33.”

In 2010, the eyes of the world turned to Chile, where 33 miners had been buried alive by the catastrophic explosion and collapse of a 100-year-old gold and copper mine. Over the next 69 days, an international team worked night and day in a desperate attempt to rescue the trapped men as their families and friends, as well as millions of people globally, waited and watched anxiously for any sign of hope. But 200 stories beneath the surface, in the suffocating heat and with tensions rising, provisions—and time—were quickly running out.

A story of resilience, personal transformation and triumph of the human spirit, the film takes us to the Earth’s darkest depths, revealing the psyches of the men trapped in the mine, and depicting the courage of both the miners and their families who refused to give up.

Based on the gripping true story of survival—and filmed with the cooperation of the miners, their families and their rescuers—“The 33” reveals the never-before-seen actual events that unfolded, above and below ground, which became nothing less than a worldwide phenomenon.

The international cast is led by Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”), James Brolin, and Lou Diamond Phillips, with Bob Gunton and Gabriel Byrne. The main cast also includes Mario Casas, Jacob Vargas, Juan Pablo Raba, Oscar Nuñez, Tenoch Huerta, Marco Treviño, Adriana Barraza, Kate Del Castillo, Cote de Pablo, Elizabeth De Razzo, Naomi Scott, Gustavo Angarita, and Alejandro Goic.

Patricia Riggen directed “The 33” from a screenplay by Mikko Alanne, Oscar nominee Craig Borten (“Dallas Buyers Club”) and Michael Thomas, based on the screen story by Jose Rivera and the book Deep Down Dark by Hector Tobar. The film was produced by Oscar nominee Mike Medavoy (“Black Swan”), Robert Katz and Edward McGurn. Carlos Eugenio Lavin, Leopoldo Enriquez, Alan Zhang and José Luis Escolar served as executive producers.

The behind-the-scene creative team included cinematographer Checco Varese, production designer Marco Niro, editor Michael Tronick and Oscar-nominated costume designer Paco Delgado (“Les Misérables”). The Academy Award-winning team of Alex Henning and Ben Grossman (“Hugo”) supervised the visual effects. The score was composed by Oscar winner James Horner (“Titanic”).

“The 33” was filmed on location in Chile’s harshly remote yet stunningly beautiful Atacama desert just kilometers away from where the event took place, and deep within two mines located in central Colombia.

A presentation of Alcon Entertainment and Phoenix Pictures, “The 33” is slated to open on November 13, 2015 and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

"They'll dig us out, and if they don't, our families will, with their bare hands if neccesary!!!!"

I remember watching the live rescue operation of the miners back in 2010. I literally cried when the first one came out from tube. The others who came out were even excited they gave the Chilean President rocks as 'souvenirs' from underground. All of them were truly remarkable and their faith with God was strong. #LosMinerosDeChile

It's a superb movie about compassion and the indestructible human spirit. Great story, no violence, great acting and great ending. Banderas is as always excellent and command the movie. Viva Chile.

I remember that day, I was watching it all day on the tv and I skipped school for it and then when they finally got the first guy out I started crying. No I didn't know the guy I didn't know any, but I was so happy they saved them. Watching this trailer reminded me of it and I started to cry when the song came on.

As a chilean i find the fact that this is a movie touching. I remember. I was around four years old. When we got home i wanted to watch playhouse disney and i turned on the TV. The news were on every channel
"THIRTY THREE MINERS, SAFE BROUGHT UP TO THE SURFACE!"
My mom rushed upstairs and we went out to the streets and everyone hugged and we all cried. We celebrated until we couldn't anymore and the whole street was filled with the chanting of the national anthem
"Puro chile es tu cielo azulado
Puras brisas te cruzan también
Y tús campo de flores bordados
Son la copia feliz del Eden
Majestuosa es la blanca montaña
Que te dio por valuarte el señor
Que te dio por valuarte el señor
Y ese mar que tranquilo te baña
Te prometo futuro esplendor
Y ese mar que tranquilo te baña te prometo futuro esplendor" (only a part)

One of the best films I've seen in a while! really felt immersed with the miners throughout and really touching to think what these guys and their families went through.
Glad to see their all brothers for life <3
A film to watch if you tired of watching the news with all wars breaking lose.

This made me tear up, so epical it is the struggle for existence and the instinct to care for one another.  The beauty of this comes not from the actors, the movie, or the struggle; instead the beauty is in hope and the empathy for families torn apart.  Love is a powerful instinct, strange to think that it was once just a habit, handed down generation after generation from those who first felt the soft touch, like wind in the air.

What a fabulous movie!!! It will haunt me and continue to touch my heart forever. Stellar acting, incredible emotion from the actors. 5 stars!  I'm hoping that Chile improves on conditions of these mines after this tragedy.

This movie is great. I hope the miners and their family received some financial help from this, since the mining company didn't give them any.
