Pens are basically useless when they run out of ink and she’s likening herself to that. The woman writes and gives so much of her energy in doing so but even writers need some energy input or they’ll start to feel empty and for a long time the partners in her life weren’t giving, they were just taking. 😢

Also, I want to add that I love how the The Prophecy connects with Cassandra as Cassandra references a mythological figure who got cursed to only speak true prophecies but have no one believe her to the point that she prophesied the Trojan Horse being used to invade Troy but no one believed her.

I think it’s a tie between loml and The Prophecy for the saddest TTPD song honestly. I got loml as a surprise song recently and it was heartbreaking but she still smiled at the end, which was lovely to see. I’ll be curious to see what happens when she does the Prophecy live

Taylor likes the idea of paper. In OOTW (1989) they're two paper airplanes flying, in All Too well (Red) she's a crumpled up piece of paper, in DBATC she has paper cuts, in Paper Rings (Lover) well, that's obvious, and now she's a paperweight in the Prophecy (TTPD)

This is one of my favorite Taylor songs ever. I really think it’s the most vulnerable song she’s ever written.

"Wound of the pricked hand" is Sleeping Beauty pricking her finger on the spindle as foretold by Maleficent's curse, a prophecy of sorts. "But still I dream of him" - Sleeping Beauty dreaming of her Prince. Interestingly, the line starts with "poison blood from the wound" which changes the fairytale. Sleeping Beauty was cursed, not poisoned. So who poisoned Taylor? Do we go back to the Eve reference and the snake in the Garden. "I got cursed like Eve got bitten." Eve didn't get bitten. She bit the apple, starting a chain of unfortunate events. But don't forget it was the serpent which instigated it. And a snake bite will poison the blood. Is this a metaphor for the Kim/Kanye thing, not just a lament over an unfulfilling love life. Sometimes Taylor's songs have many layers, and we can talk ourselves in circles trying to figure them all out. I don't think I agree that the "him" she is dreaming of is the same person who hurt her.

I like to describe that "The Prophecy" is for the one that got away, I lost my boyfriend in 2019 after a motorcycle accident, we were 20 at the time, and this song, along with "Bigger Than The Whole Sky", describe what I feel every time I think him, I still say that I'm fine, but I was never the same after he passed. I miss him so much 🕊❤️

I feel like when Taylor says "spending my last coins so someone will tell me it'll be ok" it's like, when you throw coins in a fountain and make a wish. So she's saying that she's throwing every single coin and pleading for someone (probably her soulmate) that will be with her forever and say that everything will be fine

during the Lover era when Taylor put out extracts from her diaries, there was one entry where she talked about feeling like she was always going to be "the one you meet/date BEFORE the one you merry" don't recall when this was written... I remember it was around Valentine's day. but I believe the part about the "paperweight" relates to that.

Taylor is a hopeless romantic (has always been) so I believe there is no WORSE faith than being a hopeless romantic and feeling like you are never gonna find that ONE person because you have been through so much and every time you had thought you "got lightning in a bottle" in a matter of months it has been gone. and I imagine that after 6 years of BELIEVING she had found it. to have it end, I'm sure it cemented her belief that she is "destined to be alone".
