What's the problem with the Galant?
In 1998, it would've been the 8th gen, certainly not a bad looking car.

The accord and avensis and primera are the best cars there, i had quite a good few 90s toyotas nissan s and hondas love em, pity they dont make them like this anymore.

The most reliable and beautiful cars ever built (probably will ever) are of the late 80s till mid 2000s. The Laguna mk1 and Mondeo still look fine even today.

It’s very funny when Jeremy said that the Audi A4 at around 1:30 had an engine that was 1600cc, it was actually 1800cc (1.8) and only lasted one year on the roads! 🚗

It was later exported around November 1998 and was first registered in October 1997, with the last logbook also being issued at the time of the registration! 👌

At last, someone has FINALLY put this video together, as this was only ever available on YouTube in two parts.

However, the title could include the name 'Toyota Avensis' as this review begins with the classic MK1 Avensis.

Once I saw the Alfa I knew he would choose it despite its ropey reliability and build quality

I wonder why he became to dislike the Renault Laguna by February 1998 but praised it in the review of the Vauxhall Vectra some three years earlier? 🤔

Those Passats have definitely withstood the test of time, as has the Avensis and Accords. Volvo S40? Yeah, still a decent few bumping around (Central Sweden) but let's be honest, I had it as my first car (Born 1997, car was from 1999) even back in the day it did not show any of Volvo's "luxurious" qualities, it didn't even come with many specs as standard. Mine was SE 1.8 liter (Not the GDI version) and it seems like the buyer put all money into buying every single option for it rather than buying a bigger engine

Eski araçlar ne de güzelmiş, hepsinin ayrı ayrı ruhu var...

I don’t get all the Alfa Romeo hate in these comments, yes it’s the best looking car here by far, and still looks good today. No it isn’t built as well as the dullards from Japan. Yes it drives better than anything in it’s category except maybe the bmw, and was often called one of the best fwd cars especially with the 2.0l jts. No it’s nor unreliable nor rusty, and Alfa literally told you to change the cam belt on the 1.6 and 1.8 twin spark every 60000 km which is ridiculous but they snapped before that milage in extremely rare cases. As proof of reliability the Italian emergency services had both the jtd and 1.8 twin spark on duty for many years.

If that Alfa had a Nissan badge, he'd call it hideous.

He kicked out the Rover 600, then put the Rover 600 in first place.

Clarkson didn't know the accord and rover 600 is the same car , just looked different.

I'm not an Alfa fan but I can understand why Clarkson likes them so much.

I love this, not just for these old cars I remember so well, but because of how obviously JCs biases and badge snobbery are evidently at play here!
Honda Accord is the best, but Rover 600 (same car underneath, nicer inside, prettier outside) is "too dull"...? Somebody tell him! 😆
As of 2024, most of these models are now dropped and replaced by some ugly, bloated SUV or silly "crossover" vehicle. Progress...?
