One thing worth mentioning is the emotional attachment people get towards certain cards. I think it is easy to want to hold a card forever because you really like it but that is a collection. For me, there are cards I collect and cards I invest in and they are separated. (Not that my collection cards couldn’t one day fall into the investment category)

LOL... a lot of us got extremely lucky. I always liked keeping product sealed when I was a young kid.. thinking one day I'd want to grow up, have kids, and open packs with them. Out of nowhere Pokemon goes crazy and that plan upgraded to sell vintage booster boxes, blisters, etc to make enough to buy homes with cash, cars with cash, zero credit, no student loans, and a real estate portfolio and lots of equity in COMPANIES. Pokemon is not investing, and I think people are learning that the hard way. If you open product, you lose money. Especially now with PSA 10 pop rates in the thousands of every card. You will never have a difficult time finding the card you want in a graded 10 going forward ever again. Unless you get a black label or rainbow english card in a black label or CGC perfect, or MANA Flawless (don't even try, it's near impossible with english cards to MANA Flawless. You can still make money by keeping items sealed. I'll break it down. Opening packs is buying stock options. You get a rush and possible huge return, but you're going to lose money 90% of the time. Buying graded singles is like buying stock in a Pokemon or card-type. You expect either the Pokemone (ie. Umbreon) or the card design (ie. extinct rainbows) to appreciate in value due to rarity, future nostalgia, etc. Buying and holding sealed booster boxes, for example, is like buying an ETF. It basically has you covered for any card in that entire set, or the set itself. ETF's rarely lose money, and gradually gain over time across every market sector... similar to Pokemon sealed BB's. They go up if they stay sealed. It's the safest play. If you are holding cases upon cases of evolving skies like I am, I am considered heavily invested in the evolving skies ETF. I think that product will only keep going up and has no reason to drop (unless Pokemon fails as a whole). I also have cases of VMAX Climax when the BB's dropped to $40 last year and sealed cases of 20 BB's were only $800. I'm heavily invested in Vmax Climax ETF (exchange traded fund). My Black Label Looking Back Beauty and Umbreon alt arts are merely stocks. Those are cards that I expect to perform well, but aren't as secure as a sealed box. Don't just sell the items that went way up in value unless it looks like the trend will reverse. Sell fads, like Waifus, for example. I just got $1200 for each of my Acerola.. and I don't anticiapte that card bringing nostalgia down the road. Seems more like a pump and dump. Same thing will happen to all kinds of cards... rainbows, gold item cards (due to very low pop rates), etc. Sell things that can't sustain the growth.. I would keep holding Evolving Skies BB's, Vmax Climas BB's, and Crown Zenith Pokemon Center ETB Plus boxes. Those won't fall unless Pokemon falls. It's also important to realize that Pokemon, in itself, is a single company. So, don't YOLO your investments into a single hobby. Buy some real estate, bonds, mutual funds, stocks, art, etc. I think Pokemon will really blast off in 2046, during the 50th anniversary. But, Pokemon could drop the ball at any point (.ie reprint base set first edition, or release a Sword and Shield Alt Art box that doesn't distinguish them as promos). There are things Pokemon can do to break the hobby, so I wouldn't want to be more than 5% invested in total assets. Same with crypto... max at 5%. You should be making a minimum of 6 figures to consider buying cases. If you rip some, save some sealed to recoup what you will lose when ripping. This is a fun hobby, many of us got extremely lucky. Don't get carried away. I might own a few black label Moonbreons, but its within my means. If it's not within your means, buy the rainbows.. they'll probably return more long-term anyhow. Gold item cards are dirt cheap and just as hard to pull as an alternate art V or Vmax.. plus they have low pop rates. Lots of mini risks you can take without buying a $10, 000 card. And, last piece of advice... never purchase Pokemon with credit. If you don't have the money, wait until you do.

One of the biggest things people might not realize when they first start out, me included, is that they see lots of information and follow anything but the best #1 thing you can do for the first 3-6 months before buying anything is literally researching costs/deals/opinions on multiple websites and videos to see what is the real deal. For me, personally, it took me a long time to figure out that Japanese is like a tsunami and English is the after effects. Japanese is printed significantly less than English so maybe look into Japanese even though right now it's crazy for booster boxes but when you budget yourself monthly, you can afford to buy and hold singles, sealed product for 2+ without worrying about issues. It's not easy. It's always risky. So make sure to spend a lot of time doing research before just buying up everything you see because you'll end up in a hole like me and have to climb back out. Thankfully, the hole I'm in I can afford but I'm slowly climbing my way back up while using my channel to educate others to not make the mistakes that I made plus I love giving back great cards to people. Thanks again, Shawn. If you did read this far, I'll catch you in the next live or the next video. And whoever else read this far, be patient, investment requires time. Make sure to do research on patterns and trends!

Buying and holding sealed product at or under retail is a great rule of thumb for long term investing 👍🏼 but i also love to rip packs for fun 😂

I loved this episode. I invest in other markets heavily and have just begun dabbling in purchasing Pokemon cards as a collection but would love to profit long term in a perfect world. This is some great advice and similar to that which I give others when talking about buying into the stock market and other assets.

The order for which Money comes off Plates: Colton’s first, (shame) CTR’s plate second (get rekt young’in), and finally Vault’s Plate (wife and kids always win). If you happen to find any plates in the garage with say, you know 25th anniversary product on it, sell that too, then go buy more Sun and Moon to hoard for later. Thanks for the episode and advice as always Vault❤

That's how I play roulette. Shotgun the board and see where the ball lands. But for cards I open sets/tins/boxes and if I get the best hit or am happy with my pulls and a product comes in that has those packs I'll just keep it sealed. Small increments at a time to sealed collection which in time who knows what I'll do. But I'll have options to rip or sell.

Shawn I just want to tell you that I’m staring at the celebrations UPCs in the background of your video and I’m just salivating. I want one soo bad! I never even saw one in real life. It’s like they didn’t exist where I’m from.

Sealed collection to gift kids when they get older while opening packs in between building their own personal collection. Open, sale, start a channel, whatever they want to do. Just a fun gift and way to connect. Nothing but smiles!

I have a few ETB that are sealed (I normally buy one or 2 for myself to enjoy opening and the others to stash away). I want to start buying more things to store away. What order would you recommend as far as the stuff I keep sealed? For example, should I buy booster boxes, ETBs, and single packs, and or in what order?

As a re-seller of a different product, some products have expiration dates & others don’t. For ex: concert tickets have an expiration date. Pokémon seems like you can hold & flip for as long as you want. Quick flips are good also
