DATA:

In these conditions, you have a massive amount of inflammation and an overreaction of the immune system. Gut inflammation reduces the absorption of nutrients.

The most common nutrient deficiencies in those with IBD are:

#1 - Iron deficiency
Iron deficiency occurs in those with IBD because of blood loss and decreased iron absorption due to inflammation. You can develop anemia if your iron drops too low. The best sources of iron are animal products (especially beef and organ meats) and spirulina. Always get your iron from the foods you eat, not supplements. It can be easy to build up too much iron with supplements. 80% of those with IBD are iron deficient.

#2 - Vitamin D deficiency
70% of those with IBD have vitamin D deficiency because IBD-related inflammation blocks the absorption of dietary vitamin D. Additionally, your age, weight, skin tone, and location can affect your vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is important for calcium absorption, small intestine lining repair, and reducing inflammation. 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3 daily is ideal for normal vitamin D levels.

#3 - Vitamin B12 and B9 (folate)
Vitamin B12 and B9 come from your healthy foods and gut microbes. When you have gut inflammation, your microbiome often lacks important bacteria. This can limit your ability to produce and absorb B vitamins. Low vitamin B12 and B9 can cause fatigue, anemia, and many other issues.

#4 - Vitamin K1 and K2
Vitamin K1 and K2 are also made by your microbes. An unhealthy gut can decrease your levels of these two nutrients. Vitamin K1 helps prevent bleeding by causing your blood to clot, and vitamin K2 supports the strength of your bones and helps keep calcium out of your arteries and joints.

If you have IBD, make sure you replenish these nutrients.

I suffered from irritable bowel syndrome and constipation for years. Honestly, I thought it was a normal part of getting older. It started after 35. I’m 52 now. I began a low carb “keto” diet, no sugar, no snacking between meals, no alcohol, fountain drinks, and an 18/6 intermittent fasting schedule with only breakfast and lunch. I lost 30 lbs in about 7 weeks. I have plenty of energy and now experience no IBS, acid reflux, heartburn, joint pain, and my no. 2 time has been cut dramatically. This is easier than I thought it would be. Thank you for all you do Dr Berg.

You know, I like your longer videos.

But these short ones are great, because it’s like baby steps. It’s not overwhelming.
Every week I learn another piece of the puzzle.

Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease belongs to Inflammatory Bowel diseases which are autoimmune diseases. Irritable bowel syndrome is mainly due to diet rich in gluten and stress factor which causes both constipation and diarrhea.

Came down with gastritis in January, but symptoms mimicked colon cancer. Had to figure out on my own there was a vitamin D and iron deficiency through trial and error, because they absolutely weren't getting absorbed. Really hope this vid saves someone from a couple months of absolutely no energy. Thank you for your work, doc.

I would love more videos on Crohns disease. I was diagnosed 6 years ago, had surgery 5 years ago and am now experiencing a flare up for nearly 3 months. It’s all so confusing because the things my body really needs (veggies, fruits, red meat) you’re told to avoid during a flare up and instead consume white bread, pastas, rice, etc. I’m on a biologic and a steroid and nothing is helping. Nutrients deficient in almost everything and already am seeing bone density loss. Would love a video on how to treat flare ups 🙏

I had Ulcerative colitis for 10 years and then had my colon removed and a J-pouch made with my small intestine. I then got Crohn's in my J-pouch. I started keto a couple of years ago and it has been a miracle. All the foods i was originally advised to eat were the things that were keeping me sick. After i got rid of sugar and wheat, i got my life back :)

I lost 12 kilos in just three month educating my self with the things I learned from you, thank you Dr.Berg. I need to mention that I’m 46 years old and I had tried for many years to get to my goal of becoming 75 kilos and no luck until I became familiar with keto and intermittent fasting, now I’m leaving a much healthier life, I really appreciate your effort in helping the human race.

I also found bone broth, l’glutamine and colostrum for helping heal the intestinal lining and calming the inflammation. Walking and yoga are good forms of motion for reducing stress which can often cause IBS flare ups, and help regulate bowel movements.
Thank you Dr. Berg really good nutritional information!

Dr. Berg is THE ONLY doctor on YouTube serving facts! I was diagnosed with mild Chron’s and IBD back in 2016 after also being diagnosed with HS (hidradenitis suppurativa). All the gastro docs wanted me to try NSAIDS but my dermatologist wanted me on Corticosteriods. I obliged and tried both treatments at separate times due to inefficacy on both ends. I ended up with really bad side effects from both meds and I got tired of being swayed by these practitioners. So I went online and started reading medical journals and case studies and everything lead me to exactly what this man is saying in this video. Vitamin A, D, K along with Spirulina and a strict probiotic regimen saved my life! I still get minor HS flare up’s here and there but nothing like back in 2016 and my gastro issues are almost non-existent unless I drink or eat something I shouldn’t lol I did this all without the sluggishness, hot flashes or weird dizzy spells. This man brings honest content backed up with excellent presentation and research! Thank you for your videos!

Thanks for the video. I have UC and I often need reminders of the basics, since I have done Keto 2 yrs and have greatly reduced all of my symptoms. The problem with feeling well is you think you can do whatever you want and then get a rude awakening later… I just wanted to add that journaling my emotions has also greatly reduced my stress, resolving trauma that my body has held on to. For me the mind/body connection has been weak, but I am working on it. If anybody wants to know what I am talking about, look up journal speak.

You are so correct. I have Crohn's disease and when I'm having a flare-up my blood work always detects low levels of all of the vitamins you have mentioned.
