Instead of just mushrooms, depending on who is making the music it could have certain ques that are used to coordinate between parties. This leads to one way communications but would also add ceremony and condescension to the fight if thats how that army wants to fight. It also gives them a weakness if the music "code" can be broken and the other side learns it.

I can imagine the arrogance quickly draining, giving way to immense despair as the wailing twang of the War Dancer's instrument rings out in the air.
From layers of stone and tar, they peek out to see a man-shaped fortress of armor, traipsing towards them eerily, pointing it's instrument at them before an earthshattering flash sends them to the hereafter.

Also, are those bells on it's waist? Even more discordant noise to add to it's alarming chorus, golly.

Love the war dancers! They just add such great flavor to Verus. Just an idea, but what if higher ranked war dancers came in with a bigger wand almost like the old bailey guns. From a design perspective, the "guns"/ wands could be fashioned to look like the world pillars, furthering the ceremonial themes they have going on. And if the cable gets cut, now the war dancer has a 1000 pound metal column to swing around. Fighting with the column could be a dance in itself. Using its momentum to perform almost graceful strikes into the hapless face of Rom soldiers.

This feels like one of those enemies you find in a game, it’s not a boss but it should be. You walk into a large open area and he’s just kinda roaming around, his music can be heard from far away and each one is ferocious and difficult to defeat. They’d drop their weapon, armor, or maybe some kind of lore item.

All characters in your world are limited by the laws of magic but in a video game where the MC has some special gift that makes him the hero I can see him wielding the magic tools of several enemies

Great armor design. I also loved the inclusion of the music - super immersive. Just an idea, but what if armored war-dancers actually carried mages on their backs within their armor? Maybe wounded mages missing limbs are utilized in this way.
