For slab routes, wait til the falling rope passes the second bolt and press the rope against the rock. Often this will cause the rope to bounce away from the wall

Or do what the rest of us mortals do - forget and pull the rope entirely, then use a stick clip to clip a draw into the draw that's already on the wall!
