First video in a couple of weeks—I've been busy with some real-life stuff, plus we've been working hard on a big new thing related to AlgoExpert, to be announced next week! Stay tuned 👀 and enjoy this video!

I think there can be many variables. I've been in software for 11 years and I started out in backend (Java), then moved to full stack (JS and Java/Node), and now more front-end (React). I enjoy them all equally, but the most satisfying for me has always been backend because it "enables" everything to work. In the future? I'd love to explore the Blockchain and maybe AI.

This was so insightful. I’m really enjoying frontend & CSS at the moment. I’m still learning but it brings me peace to know I can evolve into different areas so I’ll never get bored. 🎉

This is a relevant video. Right now deciding your specialization is similar to choose what to do in life before going to college. There are many options and frameworks popping at anytime and you can feel lost pretty easy. I think that your advice about 80% is a very good advice! Good job as usual!

Great video.

I've been a software engineer for 30 years and I am a client side guy. I decided I didn't have any interest in backend stuff long before backend stuff really existed in any meaningfull way (when term cloud meant nothing other than a dense cluster of atmospheric vapor).

The reasons I ruled out backend stuff:

1. I hate interpreters with a passion
2. I hate http with a passion
3. I hate databases with a passion

That leaves front end/client.

I happened to be that person that worked on multiple areas in a startup. I specialized ML in the first 2 years, after having to set up infrastructures + backend + some frontend for the company, I can crash any interview in any of the areas. I learn so much from my colleagues and the internet in 6 months, much more than the two year I spent in ML job. I think they can all be self-taught, just have to start at somewhere that you will be given those opportunities to learn and grow if that’s your goal to learn more in-depth in each area. Trust me one area does get bored after a couple years.

I could use a 2 hour podcast that goes through the bigger category's of SWE and goes into details.

Worked first job as full stack. Realized I really enjoyed mobile but hated web. (CSS) then jumped to mobile. Love it.

The very first question really made clear what i really want, i love the logic side of every application, database, API's, servers etc. So ive pursued Backend engineering. And no regrets. I love it like how love my steaks medium rare 😂

I feel like your topics are so core to wanting to get a job in this field, but they are scattered across a million videos over several years and all ultimately end up saying the same thing. "Just start programming and do it." Your channel itself is a rabbit hole where if someone who doesn't know programming wanted to learn more about it, they would just feel so overwhelmed to just even start due to paralysis.

I've been going through your videos and really enjoying them! As someone that only wears black v-necks, a couple of your videos REALLY stood out to me as my favorites.

If you have a chance get an internship in every specialisation you are considering! Best reality check you can get 😅
