See what it’s like to find then get STUNG by a freshwater stonefish!

In this video I'm back in Australia to show you where freshwater stonefish live, and how they defend themselves with venomous spines. Then I will do the unthinkable and test the venom on myself to see just how bad this sting is vs the other toxic fish I’ve encountered before.

Make no mistake, this is a very painful sting and I can’t stress enough that I’m a professional performing a controlled test. DO NOT try to recreate this video. Stonefish stings have the potential to be life threatening to certain individuals.

As a child I have been stung by a Bullrout (freshwater stone fish) and I can say they are painful, as a minor I spent the night in the hospital on heavy medication certainly not a good time. I have not been stung by a saltwater stonefish, nor do I wish to. However, a bullrout pain will only last overnight, well it did with me, and I was about 11 or 12 years of age at the time, did not see it, only felt it.
I certainly would not do it purposely to tell the pain to someone else. Got me in the foot and I had a red mark going up my leg of which points to blood poison. I would not recommend anybody from inflicting this kind of pain. The nurses at the Sarina hospital in Queensland Australia I thank you for what you have done for me at the time of this incident as you were great at your job.

I’ll never get tired of these videos. I’ve been watching since I was in middle school and it hasn’t gotten old yet.

I read on Wiki that the stonefish sting is so so painful that people who had gotten stung actually wanted their limb to be amputated just to stop the pain. I cannot imagine…😬

the fact that those are barely noticeable makes them so much scarier omg

Fortunately the venom doesn't get injected unless you step on the spines or put 50+ pounds of pressure on them. As someone who has fallen a victim to a stonefish and a catfish i promise you the pain can be thousands of times worse.

Love that they are treating stings and bites like a collection.

Question: Are you ever going to get stung by the platypus? Because there are horror stories about that.

Love the show heaps and great to see some Australian wildlife showcased recently! Just a geeky suggestion but would love to see more facts and science around the venom effects on prey/human body in the episodes! Not sure if anyone else resonates with that? just my humble opinion 😅

Could we please see the whole bite sting index - more than just a one second clip at the end of the video.

i read somewhere that a stonefish sting is worse than plunging your hand in boiling water. which people have actually done after being spiked by one to take their minds off the pain.
