Gary was a musician in a whole league of his own. He could play almost any style and he did it flawlessly. Great talent gone too soon. R.I.P Gary Moore.

George Harrison once said that Gary may have been the best guitarist he's ever seen. And we all know who Harrisons best friend was/ is E.C.
Harrison said he was working on a song that required technical speed. "So, I went around the corner from my house to Garys and asked him will you play on this" ? And he did.

I never knew him but a friend was often his sound engineer on later projects. I am told the remarkable thing about him was that he never hit a wrong note. Just didn't happen. Or a badly timed one for that matter. Then back in February 2011 I was on the waiting list for a new amplifier, a then fairly new and highly sought after Tweed knock off called a Jazzy J 20 (fabulous amps btw). Jesse who builds them had me on what was then a three month wait list but my delivery date got set back twice, firstly because "Francis could you wait another week, Jeff Beck wants one next week for a new project". OK, for Jeff Beck... Then it was "Francis could you wait another week because Mark Knopfler wants one next week for a new project" (Jesse builds about one a week). OK, for Mark Knopfler already... Then the sadness a week later. "Francis your amp is ready. You have number 75. I was building it for Gary Moore and he passed away yesterday". So I have the amplifier he never played that he was going to use to record that album of Celtic Rock. I know I can never do it justice but I find it an inspiration all the same.

No question he was one of the greatest of all time. I often hear riffs (or passages) in a tune and just have to master them, even if that's all I work on in the tune. Toward the end of Still Got the Blues, he hits a phrase that I have loved since I heard it the first time. I will often just play that alone for 30 minutes or more just because it's so freaking beautiful.

He had a melodic intensity still unrivalled in my view although he was happiest in the blues and had a complete mastery of it by the end. Was in a class of his own regards the bases he could cover.

I've still got the blues when I listen to his music and remember the day that he passed away. As a guitarist, Gary Moore is one of my all-time favourites and a major influence, it hit me hard and took me some time to listen to him again without feeling sad. Funny how emotions and music reach you even when you don't personally know them. I wish I had seen him in concert or got to jam with him. The KING is gone but not forgotten!
