MY TOP FOUR SEMLOR IN STOCKHOLM
Tomorrow is the most exciting day of the year for all semla enthusiasts. In honor if shrove Tuesday or fettisdagen, I’ve collected my top favorite semla treats in town, all in one reel.
1. The semla at Tössebageriet
I haven’t had this one yet this season because I’m focusing on trying semla’s that I haven’t had before, but I remember that this really stands out from previous years. I love the softness of the bun, the almond cream is just flavorful enough, and what really stands out to me is the texture and flavor of the whipped cream. It has a small hint of vanilla in terms of the flavor, and that really makes it a winner. In many cases, the whipped cream is overlooked and not a work of art on its own… that’s definitely not the case here.
2. The semla at Lillebrors Bageri
Maybe I’m just caving in to the popularity, but I really enjoy this one. My favorite thing about it is that every bite is exciting due to the combination of the textures. The bun is very soft which I like, then you got the roughness of the almond pieces, flavorful but not overpowering almond cream, and a pretty good whipped cream on top. Definitely not overrated.
3. The Red velvet semla at Lindquists Konditori.
I could easily put treats that aren’t really a semla higher up on this list, but since they’re not classic semla’s they won’t make it to the top. This has been one of my faves for years now and it all comes down to the whipped cream again. It’s cream cheese based instead of a traditional whipped cream and it is such a gamechanger. The bun could be softer, but the rest of the semla really makes up for it. Try this before it is too late!
4. The semla cookie at Krumel Cookies
You know I’m obsessed with their cookies so it’s not much of a surprise that a semla cookie would beon the list. If you want the flavors of a semla but packed into a cookie,this is it. You get the best of both worlds with an ooey gooey cookie with the quintessential semla flavors!
