I really do appreciate these commercials, My grandmother and grandfather have smoked 2-3 packs a day for 60 years. Theyre lucky to be alive, I wish they would quit, and even after surgery my gram still wont. Thank you guys for doing what you're doing

I hate it when people say "I smoke because I'm stressed."

What? Listen to music, exercise, go on a walk by yourself, read a book, talk with someone, take a nap. Don't light a cancer stick then walk around with disgusting yellow plaque on your teeth smelling like a disgusting ash tray. There are no benefits to smoking. None. So stop making excuses.

This is true. My mom was 37 and 110 lbs when she had a quadruple bypass. Please dont smoke. You might not be as lucky.

Thank you for sharing your family’s story with us. We are glad to hear that both of your parents have been committed to staying smoke-free, not only for their health but yours as well. As soon as they quit, the body began to heal and reverse the damage caused by smoking. We are sorry to hear about your mother’s chronic illness, and wish her and your family the best.

I, m 47, I smoked for 17 years. Last Feb. my BP sky rocketed so I went to the ER where they discovered that my aorta was totally blocked from just below my heart to mid thigh. I under went a aortoiliac enterectomy. The build was caused not by a fatty diet ( I'm a pretty healthy eater.) but by smoking. Never knew it could happen. I never picked up another cigarette and I feel better then I have in many years. BTW not including the price of cigarettes that 17 yrs of smoking cost me $185, 000.

Thanks for your positive feedback regarding the CDC Tips campaign. Our goal is to share real stories about the negative consequences of smoking to motivate quit attempts and prevent young people from ever starting. We’re sorry to hear about the loss of your dad due to smoking, but it’s encouraging that your family finds that as further motivation to never start.

Now that was not only bold, but epic. This guy's a real hero.

A heart attack is when a blood vessel that feeds the heart muscle gets blocked. This can sometimes damage the heart muscle which can cause complications. For example, a person might have so much damage that their heart can’t pump very well, making them short of breath or tired. This can be temporary or long lasting. If there is a lot of damage to the heart after a heart attack, a person might not be able to be as active as before their heart attack.

@Burningsponge, your grandfather’s long life demonstrates the body’s ability to heal once a smoker has quit for good. Thank you for sharing this inspiring story with us!

My dad had a heart attack about two times.

at least he still has his good looks ;) i read that smoking damages your veins, arteries, and blood vessels; supposed to be slick and flexible but smoking damages them causing plaque to build up- which can cause a heart attack or stroke, even make your skin look bad because of the damaged blood vessels

I smoked for 17 years and never thought I would of had a problem. I was always active in sports and thought I was indestructible. At age 43 I had a 99% blockage in my RCA and now my life is a living hell. I cannot do none of the things I used to. It is hard for me to even walk through a grocery store with my wife. Not to mention living every day with pain. Do yourself a big favor and quit before you to have to experience this kind of life.

Both my parents quit smoking well before I was born. My father has said it was the only New Year's resolution that he actually kept. My father is a healthy 55-year-old now. My mother is 54. Although I cannot call her healthy due to the fact that she has a chronic illness, she suffers no long-term effects from smoking. I expect if she did, it would have made living with an autoimmune disease much harder.

thanks for this video, when my grandpa was 41 he had a heart attack due to his chain smoking and high intensity job at the nearby helicopter plant, thinking about this, i could have probably never seen him.
he quit right after and recently just reached his 71st birthday :)

I'm wondering if any of these could eventually apply to electronic cigarettes. I feel better and cleaner smoking e-cigs than I ever did smoking regular ones.

Every time I see this ad it triggers me to smoke by stressing me out and reminding me of nicotine after I have avoided situations that cause me to crave smoking.

The entire time that I smoked I never thought of cigarettes as making me sick (until they did). I'm happy that your commercial talks about what can happen to smokers if they don't quit.

All of the illnesses depicted can and do result from smoking. Currently, More than 8 million Americans are living with a smoking-related disease. This campaign aims to educate the public about the many adverse health conditions for which smoking is a contributing factor.

@Korvan1993
It's not that simple. I was smoking for eleven yrs. I know how hard it is to quit. These adds would never make me quit. In the end, I quit out of spite. But if no one sells it, you can't buy it...
