LoLK Final Stage Theme: The Sea Where One's Home Planet Reflects

This is the Final stage theme from Touhou 15: Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom

Since the moon doesn't have any "seas", perhaps this is a song from the perspective of the Lunarians looking at Earth? Despite the moon's reflection not being visible from the moon. Maybe this is even a song for those like Seiran and Ringo, or even Kaguya.

Although I feel as though Kaguya probably doesn't consider the moon her home anymore though.

Fun fact: In Japanese, the title of this theme is "Kokyo no Hoshi ga Utsuru Umi"(故郷の星が映る海), which can be interpreted in two ways depending on how you type the comma. It represents the situation of the four main characters in the Final Stage.

"Kokyo no Hoshi ga, Utsuru Umi" = The Sea Where One's Home Planet Reflects → Reimu/Marisa/Sanae
"Kokyo no, Hoshi ga Utsuru Umi" = The Sea of Homeland Where Planets Reflect → Reisen

Fun Fact: Our moon was said to have "seas" before we could really study it, all with different names, so yes the moon does in fact have "seas".

It was strange how well ZUN portrayed the purity of this stage; the only enemies are those little hitodama, not even a midboss to pollute the pristine ocean where there should not be an ocean. An ocean empty of life, just as the moon is empty of life.

The absolute chaos of the previous boss (Clownpiece) is masterfully contrasted in the sudden lack of anything but the sound of a roaring sea so that you appreciate the simple purity of Junko.

I wonder how much water from that Sea are actually Junko's tears?

This track is sad and beautiful. I also like the wind in the song. You can also hear some of Junko's actual theme in here.

Really good stage theme. The stage themes didn't disappoint in this game.

Rumia, the easiest boss in the game, and the last to make her prayers to hope you win.

I love her.

Just as an info, the big on the moon basaltic plains which are called seas, and one of the biggest one is "Mare Tranquilitatis" (sea of tranquility) that you can actually see from Earth when you look at the moon. ZUN just transformed the symbolic sea into an actual sea, which is clever !

the sea where one's home planet reflects = junko's sadness
pure furies ~ whereabouts of the heart = junko's anger

This stage theme feel so
empty,
sad,

when u run into a stray bullet.

I love the emotions expressed in this piece. It's perfect at representing the despair Junko feels.
It feels like Junko is drowning in the despair she feels from not being to enact her revenge on Cheng'e. What's really sad is that Junko never gives up and continues to try to get her revenge on Cheng'e, simultaneously purifying and strengthening her hate and also her despair as she fails in every attempt. That's what this piece shows IMO.
It's a very sad piece. Almost made me cry the first time I listened to it. Poor Junko...

It's funny how we've never had any ocean or sea in Gensokyo but suddenly one appears on the moon of all places. As a fan of Marine Benefit, I feel like I'm being trolled.

I just love how stage 5 and 6 are the exact opposites of each other.
Stage 5 and Clownpiece are complete chaos and you need to be offensive if you don't want to mess up. (basically take out the enemies ASAP before the attacks become ass hard)
Stage 6 and Junko on the other hand is pure, calm and simple. (even though the part without enemies and Junko are quite cough cough inferno material) Being rather passive actually works well for most of the time during the stage.

An eternity of sorrow, a life of longing, all a twisted, demented form of grief having turned such a kindness into the most wretched devil the likes of Gensokyo has ever seen. If she hadn’t let the rage take her heart, there would’ve been hope to help her. But revenge took her mind before anything else could be done.

This definitely blows all the other previous stage 6 themes out of the water.

This stage takes an other dimension when you realize that the "rain" of danmaku is nothing but tears of bullets.

Touhou moon has seas.

Anyways, this is the best stage 6 theme and one of the best Touhou themes for me. It tops all other stage 6 themes so far. It gives off the finale aura from its calmness. It's just.... otherworldly. And no, no pun intended.

don't know if people wrote abt this, but the spots you see on the Moon were mistooken as actual seas by early astronomers. these spots are still called lunar seas (or lunar mare) and they have names aswell. Mare Tranquillitatis or Sea of Tranquility, as we know it in touhoum is the landing place of Apollo 11 and, just in fact, there were some notices about people, back in time, seeing strange lights over that place.

for me it's actually an interesting idea for Zun to take these spots as actualy seas, maybe hidden from human eyes by Lunarians.
