In all actuality, Apophis would only cause regional damage. Certainly not like what this thing showed. Putting the parameters into impact simulator, at 200 miles away, if it impacted 200 meter deep ocean, the fireball generated would be below the horizon, the airburst would be 10 miles an hour, the earthquake would be a magnitude 6, and the tsunami generated would arrive 2 hours after impact and be around 5 feet high. The crater formed would be a simple crater, and be roughly 1.5 miles wide, and less than a mile deep.
So definitely only regional devistation. This thing showed the airburst and fireball just wiping out a quarter of the northern hemisphere.

Apophis is a city killer. Dino killer was 5-7 miles across.

Seems like a bad morning for Europe.

Oh and do Haley's comet, this time make it hit Australia, would love to see a big target on the place I call home

That looked about 100 miles away from hitting my house. My gonna be alright?

Professor Plump says "It's just gonna make a little splash in the ocean. Oh that ain't a splash at all."

If Apophis hits Earth, then Colonel Jack O'Neill hits back twice as hard.

I highly doubt this was accurate. It made a bigger crater than the 10 kilometer asteroid.

Could you combined all the rocky planets and combine all the gas giants. Have the combined rocky planets orbit the gass Giants in the habital zone and see what happens. :^) that would be cool, thanks.

It was cool seeing a video where the Earth survived!

What if a basketball hit Earth above the speed of light

We actually know where it would hit if it did, somewhere near southern California.

Maybe redo it with the actual likely location?

Cool video!! Just FYI- the math says that if the asteroid hits the CENTER of the keyhole in space that would cause an inpact in 2036, it will hit somewhere just off the coast of California. If it hits other regions in the keyhole it could be further out in the Pacific, OR in the actual continental US

The problem is that for some reason Universe sandbox doesn’t account for “atmospheric fracturing” basically meaning that when it hits it will have lost approximately half its mass or more. See if you’re like me you had a granddad who was super into space and gave you little meteor fragments as a kid, he explained that these fragments he would give us would enter earth’s atmosphere the size of basketballs or as large small cars (depending on the compensation of the meteor) and yet would land on earth no larger than a marble. The largest recorded meteor fragment was a little larger than a golf ball, and its believed that came from a meteor about the size of a pickup truck. The larger a meteor is the less dense it tends to be, meaning that apophis would break apart and mostly burn up as it enters earth’s atmosphere, sending those little meteor fragments all over the world and apophis itself would end of at 50% its current mass worse case scenario, however even that seems unlikely given its current path, it’s more likely IF it were to hit the earth it wouldn’t be at a “direct impact” instead it would get caught on Earths gravitational pull and spin into earth at a diagonal angle causing it to lose speed and up to 75-80% of its current mass. Meaning it would be about the equivalent of the first atomic bomb test. Don’t get me wrong this would still be extremely sad for whoever had to endure such a strike, but it wouldn’t be the extinction level event shown here.
