Right around the time the Double Down came out, one of the big franchise restaurants (99's or Applebees, I think) came out with a burger that used a whole grilled cheese sandwich for each side of the bun. Doing that might be a useful companion piece for the other end of the self-loathing sandwich bun spectrum.

KFC Double Down is the perfect creation. Doesn’t need a bun. And certainly doesn’t need pickles or other veggies. This sandwich is my cheat meal whenever I can get it.
