I had a similar incident in college. I moved off-campus and a friend came to visit. He got expelled from his college but he told me he was on break. After a week, I realized he was trying to stay so the following week I told him my lease was up and I was moving in with my gf. He tried to convince me NOT to move in with her and get my own place. I started packing and everything. After 2 days of packing, he finally started making calls to find somewhere else to stay. After he left, I unpacked all my things, changed my locks, and blocked him.

I just don't understand how anyone can live in a home where they are not wanted. How can you sleep at night?

This almost happened to me. Friends of ours (now ex friends) lost their home. It was a husband and wife with two small kids. We felt bad for the kids so we let them stay for the Summer. The husband had promised they would be out by the beginning of the school year. Well, the idiot husband kept getting fired from jobs due to his temper and attitude. Ten weeks turned into nine months with excuse after excuse. We finally had enough and gave them 30 days to find someplace else to live. They sold one of their cars to get money to move. We actually found out later the reason they had lost their first home is that it was actually owned by his mother and SHE had evicted them over his attitude towards her. Looking back i realize how stupid it was but we were young, dumb, and too trusting. And the real topper was the husband later complained that we didn't give them enough time. Dude we gave you nine months. Lesson learned. Never again.

Back in December one of my cousins, who I haven't had contact with in years, who lives about 40 minutes from me and drives to my city every Sunday for church, and who I suspect lives rent free at her mom's, texted me asking if she could stay at my house for 2 weeks while she "figures out" her housing situation. I promptly told her NO and never regretted that decision. Family is not always thicker than water. My loyalty is with me and living in peace. Period.

Inviting someone to stay is not a permanent deal. Since when does the owner lose their rights? To me this is stealing someone's personal space & should be a crime

I was warned not to let a friend live with me because of this very reason. Soooo thankful I listened. I actually really didn't believe the warning. Wow, I escaped a miserable situation. Thanks for sharing this.
