Most conventional products to treat dry hands offer temporary relief but don't actually heal your hands because they don't address the underlying problem. In this video, organic beauty products expert Spirit Demerson provides the recipe for a homemade dry hand treatment guaranteed to restore moisture to cracked hands.
If you have experienced cracked hands you have probably already noticed that lotions, creams, and a lot of salves are doing nothing for them. In fact a lot of the most popular hand treatments that are petroleum or mineral oil based do not heal cracked hands at all; they just soothe the discomfort of the cracked skin.
In order to truly heal cracked skin you need something that's going to penetrate deep enough to restore the lipid layer underneath the surface of the skin, and then you need something that is going to be durable enough to stay on the surface of the skin to lock that moisture in.
By the time your hands are starting to crack, they are probably so dehydrated that even just applying these two ingredients, whether it is avocado oil and Shea butter, just applying them topically to the skin is still not going to penetrate well enough, so you want to make sure you do a nice hand treatment with them. Apply the avocado oil. Apply it very generously. Let that absorb for about one minute before you apply the Shea butter over that, and then wrap your hands in a warm wet towel. The steam will help both of those ingredients penetrate more deeply and restore the moisture to the skin in a way that is more sustainable and that will help recover and heal the cracked skin.
