My first birth, i was on all fours. Pushed my daughter out in 9 minutes 💖💖 the doctor tried to get me to lay down, my husband told him i wanted to give birth on all fours. YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO LAY WHATEVER WAY YOU WANT, DO NOT FORGET THAT MOMS. Also don’t lay on your back the whole time in labor. It makes the baby’s heart rate drop

I cussed out a nurse who tried to force me to lay down . I squatted over the bed and pushed my son out. The doctor laughed as he walked in the room to find I had already gave birth, and only needed help with the umbilical cord 😂🤣

I get SO frustrated when hospitals refuse to allow free movement simply for convenience’ sake. I am convinced that women being forced to lie on their backs during labor lead to so many unnecessary interventions that in turn cause many unwanted side effects. I had a natural home birth, and the two times I needed to lie on my back through a contraction (for fetal monitoring) was THE WORST torture of my life. If I’d been in a hospital being made to do my whole labor on my back, I would have been begging for an epidural or something to stop the absolutely horrific pain of being on my back. As it was, labor was hard, long, and painful, but I got through it, thanks to The Lord, my birth team, a birth pool, and the ability to change positions as often as I needed/wanted to! ☺️ So grateful for all the great info on this channel, I have recommended it to so many others who want to birth naturally at home or in the hospital! ♥️

I had my daughter last week after watching this video & I just wanna say THANK YOU. I gave birth on all 4s without epidural & didn’t need any stitches! Definitely was better & much easier to push in this position vs laying on your back!

As a guy who is not able to do any "classes" during the Covid pandemic, I must sincerely thank you for all of your videos. You offer so much great content and have really helped me and my wife to feel far more confident regarding our coming baby. Due in just over a week! Thanks again!

I voiced myself to my OB that in the birthing phase of labor I’d like to birth in the position I desire such as squatting, or standing...whatever works because laying reclined is not optimal and I’d like to work with gravity. She was extremely supportive and on board with what I wish to do and wants to honor and respect my desires. I’m excited for my birthing experience as I’m 39 weeks and 3 days so it’s coming soon. ☺️🙏

Reading the comments and I’m shocked that some of those doctors refused to let these mamas give birth on their backs, I believe giving birth on your back is only beneficial for the doctor but doctors are there to accommodate the moms. Definitely won’t be giving birth on my back and any doctor that refuses to let me do so will kindly be replaced.

I will be making my care providers watch this in the future! So helpful. I did not have an epidural during my first labor and was forced on my back during pushing. My body knew it was wrong. I kept telling my providers I needed to be upright and on hands and knees. That was when I felt the natural urge to push. On my back that urge disappeared and I felt this insane pain. I'm not exaggerating when I say my OB yelled at me: "This is how we do it. You either get on your back or I'm leaving." I wish first time moms were aware of how coercive and emotionally abusive providers can become in this final stage. I was told I could give birth in whatever position I wanted by my doulas but when it came time my provider literally yelled at me and would not help if I did not do it how he wanted. I was not prepared for that.

With my son I tried different positions, moving around, going in the water.. my body refused. I gave birth lying on my side and never knew it was a good position! Took 4h30 from start to finish for a 10 pounds baby with a head in the 99th percentile! About to give birth now for the third time ❤️

Your videos have helped me tremendously. I gave birth to my first baby last Saturday. Water broke 3 weeks early and labor had not started, so I had to be induced. From using the breathing techniques to preparing to open up my pelvis a couple weeks in advance, I was able to push my baby out in 40 minutes. The pain was not as bad as I was in my zone determined to get him out. These videos are amazing thank you so much!

Hi Bridget, could you make a video with a few tips on how to advocate for yourself in changing positions, etc? especially when the medical staff is being kinda pushy or guilt-tripping you into doing one thing or another. I'm far from even wanting to be a mom lol but I came across this video and the whole time I kept thinking, just based on my previous experiences with medical staff on completely different scenarios: I can't imagine nurses and doctors being on board with you wanting to change their plans. In my own experience, healthcare staff can be a bit harsh and relentless with what they think is right for you. I want to clarify that I am absolutely grateful for the work of doctors and nurses, but some times the line of who makes the calls becomes blurry, and I can totally see that happening in a situation like giving birth.

After three attempts to birth the way my body needed to in the hospital and having the hospital not allow it, I went to home birth. My midwife was fantastic!! She allowed me to labor and deliver while standing. I had four easy quick labors at home.

I did a lot of laboring on all 4s but ended up giving birth side lying with support from my midwife. I never thought I would deliver that way but it felt right in the moment

I can't even lay on my back at 22 weeks, there is no way I'm going to be able to lay on my back full term. I have had a bit of anxiety about delivery because I don't want to lay on my back. I've been there for my best friend's deliveries and she's always had an epidural and pushed on her back. It's the opposite of what I want to do! Side lying looks amazing.

Your videos are SO helpful! I can't thank you enough for all of these educational videos. It makes such a difference to have this wealth of info from a professional available for free.

Thanks so much for your video, Bridget. I'm an American living in the UK, and have given birth to my two sons here (now pregnant with my third child). While the NHS certainly has its problems, I LOVE the midwife culture here, and the focus on mother-baby well-being and natural processes. It's made me very curious about how maternity care in the US became so 'medicalized', and so dismissive of more body/nature oriented ways of thinking. I'm sure it's an interesting story! Thanks again for the video--I wanted to hear about different positions to try in the birthing pool for #3!

I am so glad I found this video long before the due date of my third baby! I’ve only had one labour because my second pregnancy ended in miscarriage. However for my first labour I ended up in a reclined sitting position which resulted in an episiotomy due to the panic of my baby’s heart slowing down dramatically. I will never go in that position again! For this second labour I plan on going on hands and knees!
