Arknights Story Summarized | Chapter 9: Stormwatch - The Rise of the Setting Sun

We've waited almost a year for this, but chapter 9 is finally here.

If you've gone over Reed and Bagpipe's files, then you'll probably have a decent idea of what we're heading into, and Chapter 9 will be the primer for the new arc, Shadow of a Dying Sun, and the conflicts that we'll see in Victoria.

While the chapter is mostly stand-alone, there'll be big spoilers near the end. I'll put a warning on the screen, but it's highly recommended to finish Chapter 8 first. Additionally, do please keep in mind that the names for the characters are translated phonetically and the official TL may be different.

Also, Knoll County and County Hillock are the same thing. The former is the one used in the old translations so it's the one I went with.

Saileach - Irish for 'willow', whose real name may be Jane Willow (简·薇洛), mentioned directly in Archive 3 by Oliver Bernard
also mentioned in her Assistant Appointment voiceline, her name is the same with the heroine of her favorite novel(probably Jane Eyre, known as 简·爱 in Chinese)
She took 1 day before the decision choosing codename, after checking this was the correct spelling in Taraish multiple times, mentioned in Archive 2
Dublinn - "深池" (lit. deep/dark lake/pond), first spoken out loud in Reed's voicelines as ダブリン(daburin), spelling given after her release in JP/KR/GL and in 2nd anni pv tease
same pronunciation as Ireland's capital, its Chinese name has the literal meaning as the Irish name that English derived from - "Dubhlinn" (lit. dark pool)
the logo is almost the same as Celtic Triquetra, probably indicating somewhat correspondence with real-world Celts
Tara - "塔拉" (transcription), probably coming from a mountain in Ireland - Hill of Tara(Teamhair in Irish), only a bit northwest from Dublin
it's a ceremonial and burial site from as archaic as neolithic period, an important place in Irish mythology and Irish self-governance movement

my speculations and thoughts: (extremely not believable, probably offensive, influenced by speculations made by Valletta members)

Dracos are Celtics in Terra and Aslans are Vikings/Anglo-Saxons or even Normans in Terra
As in British history, the land's inhabited by aboriginals before Indo-Europeans came, Celtics, Romans, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Normans and such
Hatred between Taraish and Victorian is deep, kinda resembling

Dublinn is indifferent to say at least, they exploit Taraish to gain power rebeling against Victoria, yet after that they left Taraish, who believed them for a better life, in County Hillock for death
as quote from Akhmony(阿赫茉妮, no spellings given yet), "You and me have not even a pound of relation with Tara, Hill."
they are no comparison to Reunion deeds-wise

Mandrake is a "crazy, foolish psychopath"(quote from Theresis and Confessor), which all that had read the lore agreed with
she got envy simply after Akhmony broadcast for "Leader" for "Akhmony left her just to get nearer to Leader than me"
quote from an average Dublinn member, "she disgraces aristocracy even wanting them death by herself, yet sees aristocrat Leader as the 'one true god'"
which is also a sarcastic remark for himself and hypocritic Dublinn


names mentioned below are not given(though choosing real Irish or Celtic names first), Chinese names follows

Almost every member of Trumpet squad, Trumpet(号角)(not explicitly said, but highly possible), Cello(大提琴), Oboe(双簧管), Angle Iron(三角铁), was dead, where Bagpipe lived to get info out

Reed, the younger sister of "Leader"(“领袖”), got severely damaged because of a wrong bullet or such shot by an average Dublinn member, later rescued by Outcast

Outcast, the loveable elite operator, was dead protecting Reed and Bagpipe by presumably shooting out 6 bullets at the same time

Other members and gonna-be members of RI, Oliver Bernard(奥利弗·伯纳德), Will(威尔), Fred(弗雷德), Shredder(碎纸机), lived and showed great bravery in rescuing residents after bombing

Damian Barry(达米安·巴里), the boy in potato storage, got killed right after arrested

Lewis Kerry(路易斯·凯利), the Taraish captain, executed his nephew Damien and lived in deep regret, arrested under hiding Infected(actually because he being Taraish)

Saoirse Kerry(西尔莎·凯利, Sercia in video), cousin of Damien, burnt into ashes by Reed(actually killed before being burnt by stone spikes from Mandrake)

Hill(希尔), Hamilton's Lieutenant, held deep hate against Taraish, left for joining Dublinn after seeing that Victorian Army was losing

Hamilton(汉密尔顿), the Victorian captain, fought to death against Dublinn after throwing bombs yet not worked

Craig(克雷格), the boy with the ball, became Infected in bombing and changed his mind after seeing Saileach fighting for them

Grainne(格兰妮), Craig's mother, stood with Saileach after bombing, her husband, Sean(肖恩), got caught by becoming Infected working in oriron factory

Ronan(罗南), sus, sold secrets to Dublinn and treated his former neighbors harshly, became unwelcome among residents

McMartin the Cook(厨子麦克马丁), the liaison man, crushed by debris or originium from bombing while going on the mission of sending information out

Séamus Williams(西莫·威廉姆斯), the Taraish poet, dead because the ball shot by Craig, his poems influenced Taraish, but got burnt into ash too, yet one piece left and that's Reed's Token

Mandrake(蔓德拉), the "psychopath", flew away after killing Trumpet squad to Londinium for "Leader", wreaking "havoc" under Theresis's nose

Akhmony(阿赫茉妮), the mint feline, unknown
her silhouette appeared in hg's tease in Bilibili Chinese New Year Gala 2020, also she being overall more reasonable than almost every Dublinn member and having a unique style of art even with rings RI used for monitoring Oripathy on her makes one question about her availability(though now she's seen as Dublinn's bootleg W that few would seen as waifu)

I see alot of people here wanting Talulah to join Rhodes. While she's my third favorite character, I do not want them to rush her. Her joining Rhodes this early without any redemption arc would be a real problem since she's committed wayyy too many warcrimes there's no fucking way Kal'tsit would let her in easily. Nine bailing her outta jail frustrates me too, but Kal'tsit probably slipped on purpose. It would be hard to bring a draco to Victoria also specially, because t'was Talulah herself.

i really have to wonder what theresis' plan is at this point and how he's controlling her. clapping her and then reviving her makes this whole clusterfuck of a situation in victoria so much more interesting

Also it looks like they are giving hints that Talulah might be playable in the middle or near the end of this story arc.
