Thank you!!! I've been stressing and hemming and hawing about setting up a website for MONTHS! It's up now, and I'm already having fun customizing! Thank you so much! God bless!

Very well put together. I already knew about a lot of this (in the IT field) but it's nice to have it all in one place for me to see instead of being stuck searching a bunch of different sites.

My only concern is this: During your registration, I noticed that you had a domain name created when you installed the Wordpress onto the BlueHost server. I'm not sure if you had this domain previously set up or not but it appeared it was created when you installed the Wordpress software. My problem is, I already have a domain name being used on Wordpress.com (I purchased it when I first setup my Wordpress).

My question is, how would I use that Domain Name on my hosted Wordpress? Would it be possible or would I have to create a separate Domain Name and then do a 301 Redirect to my hosted Wordpress?

I hope you can make sense of my question.

Thanks!

Hi - I would recommend creating a second video for people who already have a Wordpress blog. Because I followed the steps in this video exactly, and now I've got a disaster on my hands! First, nothing happened because my SSL certificate didn't authenticate automatically. To do that, I had to create a new email in Bluehost (which the video didn't mention). THEN I found out that I also needed to change the server names in order to make the change. I did this with customer support, but it took a while for the SSL cert to kick in. My site was down for 24 hours, and when I was able to get it running again, my free Wordpress.com theme didn't transfer - or any of my posts since Sept. of last year. After 45 minutes with a Bluehost customer rep, it was determined that I need to copy my SQL database to the new self-hosted account. Now waiting to hear back via email from Wordpress on how exactly one does that. I'm glad to have made the move, as I need more functionality and plugins to make my site better, but I wish I'd known in advance what I might be up against. So, Michael, great job, as usual, but it would be awesome to at least let folks know that if they already have a site/blog, they might run into some issues.
