75th RANGER Regiment Explained – What is a Ranger?

What makes the 75th Ranger Regiment so special is that every Soldier in it is specially selected and screened, ranger qualified, and remarkably intense. If they don’t like your attitude or performance, they send you packing. This ensures that only the best and most intense Soldier remain.

This video is a part of the “What is” / “Explainer” playlist for Special Operations units. I plan to highlight essential pieces of Unclassified information about the most important Units within the Special Operations community. My goal is to make each video plus or minus 3 minutes.

My son has just been 1 year now, I remember vividly him wanting to be a 68W with an option 40 contract.. he didn't get one but he got an option 4 (airborne only). I told him to hold out until he got the option 40 with his contract to guarantee him a chance at rasp. Well he didn't want to wait so he took the option 4 (68W 04) and told me he will just let them know at airborne that he wants rasp. Being prior Army I told him if it's not in writing NOTHING is guaranteed Period. He said but dad the recruiter said I will have a good chance at Rasp at airborne school, then I asked him was his lips moving, he said yes, I said he is lying. Well he went to basic at Ft. Jackson last September after that AIT at FT. Sam. One week after AIT at Sam he left to FT Benning for Airborne school. He had made several good friends while there that got the option 40 contract and was going straight to RASP after AIT at FT Sam. He was bummed they were moving on but he talked to a Ranger Regiment Recruiter at Aiborne school and they dropped a packet for him. He found out one day before airborne graduation he got selected to go to RASP. Having said all that Keep Faith and go for what you want. He is going to SOCM this month before some of the guys that had Option 40 contracts. I just can't believe it was so simple. My advice, keep your nose clean, study, keep trying, GET A GOOD PT SCORE. We are a wrestling family so I ran his A$$ hard. He did the work and I never seen him happier. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!

My best friend, may he rest in peace, served with 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Ranger Battalion between 2012-2015. Also saw intense combat in Kandahar; his platoon went on 19 combat missions during their four months in-country. They were all night raids targeting HVTs. They worked alongside Afghan commandos, SEALs, and more.

I still remember attending his RASP graduation, meeting a number of his buddies, and even visiting HAF once. Ever since, I've been an unrepentant fanboy of the 75th. They really are a great unit and I'm glad to have them protecting us.

I was with the Canadian Airborne Regiment, 2 Commando, Patrol Pathfinder Platoon in Somalia in 93 and the 75th Regiment were our Brother Regiment. We went down there and I was in the HQ and I was blown away by the lobby. All our stuff up and how they honoured us like Brothers. We jumped a few times with them. Whoah!

Wow, good to see they haven't change since they use to do RIP. 2/75 Bn 79 thru 83. This course wasn't for those that wanted to be one. It was more like those who would rather die trying then give up. Ranger lead the way!

My son just finished week 4 of RASP. He joined as a 13 F with Option 40 contract. So far, although he has been put through some Extremely tough training, he is loving the challenges he has been presented with. He has wanted this since he was in the 8th grade, He has never wavered from that dream.

One issue, not everyone in Regiment is Ranger Qualified, new privates are not not Ranger Qualified but are Rangers, tab is just a school, scroll is a way of life!

70% of any RASP class won't last two years, it's alot HARDER to stay in Regiment then it getting there...Any Black Beret or tan Beret Ranger would agree! IT DOESN'T GET EASIER AFTER RASP!!
