Vintage Kenner ‘STAR WARS’ 1978 Galactic Empire Tie Fighter Toy Review

Kenner made one of the coolest toys ever when they released the Tie Fighter for the 3 3/4” action figure line for the original Star Wars film! Truly a must have for any vintage Kenner Star Wars toy collection. In this video, I review this awesome, fun, electronic toy ship from the Galactic Empire. Darth Vader’s dark forces flew these fast, deadly and cool looking ships when battling the rebels X-Wings in dogfights. Especially when defending the Empire’s secret weapon, the dreaded Death Star seen in the original1977 Star Wars film.

If you love vintage Kenner Star Wars toys and are a fan of the Empire, hop in the cockpit as we take a journey thru space in the amazing Imperial Tie Fighter!

I had this, the Vader TIE, and the X-wing as a kid, as well as the Falcon. I was very lucky.

Man, I wish I could time travel back to when these toys were still in stores. It must have been magic to see a whole isle packed with carded figures and boxed vehicles... Any time I go into a toy store the SW section is always just this little emaciated group of unwanted Disney Trilogy figures that have been there since the movies came out...

I had a ton of Kenner Star Wars as a kid, but never a TIE Fighter. That’s a beautiful example you have GQ! Box is excellent too! Great Review Video!

Had that as a kid for I believe, my 11th birthday. I wanted Vader’s fighter but somehow ended up with the white one.

Great video GQJ. Yeah I had this tie fighter was given to me by my friend Nathan in 1985. It was used and the laser light didn't work but I didn't care now my tie fighter pilot had a fighter to sit in. Sadly in the late eighties while moving to another state the tie was accidentally thrown away. I only have the solar panels to this day. In the 90s I did purchase the tie fighter and was amazed with the exception of color it looked like they used the same molds from the 1978 version. Again I had to sell it to vintage toy shop for money I needed.looking now to see if I could find a tie fighter body to attach my panels on most are pricey out there even in pieces.

I didnt have a tie fighter until my adult collecting days but man was I impressed when I got my hands on one. As a kid I just never put money towards the bad guy vehicles. Im also pretty happy my 90s one doesn't make the lights and sounds haha, similar to the original blasters vs my childhood 90s ones 🤣

I have this Tie Fighter. It needs some cleaning and the stickers replaced. It's my only vintage vehicle besides a cloud car and two MTV-7s.

As a young kid, I collected Star Wars only from 1978 to 1981, so it drove me nuts during that time that there was not a proper TIE Fighter Pilot action figure. I used the AT-AT Driver figure as a quasi-acceptable substitute. (At least Kenner fairly early on had given us a Luke figure dressed in his proper X-Wing pilot outfit; my having previously been forced to use the farmboy version of Luke for piloting the X-Wing had always felt and looked so wrong to me!) As much as I loved all things associated with Darth Vader, the Kenner version of his personal TIE Advance prototype was disappointing. Because Kenner had gone the cheap route of reusing the same design for the cockpit/mid-section as the regular TIE Fighter, their version of Vader's ship looked unbalanced, flimsy and fundamentally inauthentic. Regardless, though, the original classic TIE Fighter as profiled in this video will always be, in my mind at least, the most iconic vehicle in all of Star Wars. The prominence of TIE Fighter footage was probably the most redeeming feature of Episode VII. In fact, I recently broke down and bought one of the huge Black Series First Order TIE Fighters scaled for the 6" action figures. I haven't opened it yet, though, because I honestly have no idea where I am going to display it once I take it out of the box and assemble it - - that is how big it is.
