Why Don't Cyclists Ride in the Cycle Lanes?

We're often asked why cyclists don't ride in the cycle lanes. One reason is because there's often a car parked in one. This is another reason why segregation is needed.

It's not a law that cyclists must use cycle lanes, but it is safer, when motorists don't park in them or block them at traffic lights. I use them where I can but half the cycle lanes in my town are always full of broken glass. Yobs? Or disgruntled motorists? Sorry, but I am not risking a puncture every journey just because some people hate cyclists.

It's the same everywhere. Cycle lanes where I live. Pot bellied lorry drivers park in it to walk over the shop across the road for some beef cobs then wobble back to their trucks while creating a bottle neck which I must then navigate through to get back to safety.
I long for the day when vehicles will be banned from town centres and cities. It's coming!

I believe taxis are exempt from double red lines but I'm surprised those other people aren't afraid of getting fined.

Should see the bus lanes in Cardiff if you think that these were bad? You would literally have a meltdown!!! You are lucky you can get around them easily as you are small, now try doing it in a bus with drivers not allowing you out blasting their horns and going nuts all to get to that lovely red light 200 yards away. Then you get the special cyclists who ride on the solid white line who travel around 5mph and you can’t pass because they are taking up two lanes!

Cyclists are aloud to still use any part of the road anyway, except places where there's no cyclists aloud like on duel carriageway or whatever

it seems that the UK has a lot more drivers that consider a cycle lane as a good spot to park their cars than we have in the Netherlands...
"riksja's", like the ones i saw here, are exempt from using the majority of the obligatory cycle lanes for their width, i have used this rule every so often when i was a "postie" and the back of my bicycle overstretched the 1.20 meter.
and since this was mainly during the morning rush hour it has given me some confrontation with drivers, but most were funny, seldom have encountered real rage...

Yes it’s getting to the point the cycle lane is so rarely used people park cars there.

The only way is to have cycle lanes properly seperated by a high kerbstone so cars and vans etc cant do this.

I don't have an issue with theses times but can someone please explain to me why some cyclists ride on a road when it's a busy 60 and narrow road and there's a perfectly good cycle paths beside the road. I really stuggle to understand the logic
