Yamaha Montage Arranger Performances Demo

The Yamaha Montage is a flagship, professional synthesizer, not an arranger keyboard like Genos. The big question is: Can we use Montage as an arranger keyboard? The answer normally would be: No, because it is a synthesizer. My personal answer is: Yes, you can use it as any other arranger keyboard. You can have the same functions as an arranger keyboard but with a higher, world-class sound quality. With Yamaha Montage, you can get a much better sound quality than on arranger keyboards. Incredible, realistic tones and drum sets, higher quality effects that help the live or studio performance to sound like a real band. I had many gigs where I only played bar piano music. For this purpose, Montage is a perfect choice with a stunning piano sound. Sometimes the parties end up with dancing so I had to carry my Tyros 5 to have an arranger keyboard as well, with styles. Now with this new custom library for Montage I don’t need any arranger keyboard. I can play nice bar piano music and Pop,Latin, Dance, all genres of music only with the Montage. At the same time, I have a high quality,professional Synthesizer, Piano, and Arranger keyboard under my hand.All the performances have custom made drum sets and tone combinations. Even if some tones are repeating in the registrations – such as the piano tone - they always show a different character and colour. From the eight channels, the first five are working as arpeggiator, which are controlled by the left hand. The last three channels are for the right hand. In some performances channel seven and eight can contain two tones, which can be called up using the assign 1 and 2 buttons. All performances consist from 8 scenes (E.g. Intro, Main A, Main B, Main C, Fill A, Fill B, Fill C, Break, Ending). You can control the last three channels (6, 7, and 8, which are for the
right hand part) with a foot controller, like a volume pedal. This way, the playing is much easier,and we get a nice, balanced and dynamic sound without interrupting the playing.Whether in the studio at home or on stage, the Montage delivers world-class sound and features.The red colour performances contain two sounds at channel seven and the performances marked with blue also contain two sounds at channel seven and eight which you can control with the assign 1 and 2 buttons.

Bought a Yamaha montage 2 months ago, and it's a BEAST. Also something of a beast to learn. The manuals are pretty much useless, because this monstrosity is crazy advanced. You literally can create any sound you'd ever want, combine the worlds most powerful FM synthesizer with sampler that has more filters than you can even want, and tweak the sounds till you can't even recognize your own samples. Not to mention the 6300 samples it comes with, you can throw in a few thousand of your own. But the MAJOR problem that Montage struggles with, it is its own enemy, Yamaha made this synth to literally please everyone, and that made it EXTREMELY hard to learn. I wish there was more tutorials out there, the only tutorials I can understand so far, are the ones Dom Sigalas published, but they're not enough to really learn this beast, it simply got too much to tweak, too many options.


You really show that YOU can perform with this synthesizer, no doubt about that, I wish you'd make some tutorials (a whole series). I'm sure you could even charge for it, as there is many of us that don't have all the hours, that'd love to learn in an understandable way, instead of endless technical tweaking (and that's coming from a technical guy). Many of those who makes tutorials out there, skips several steps so you can hardly follow them, and more of a DEMO of what THEY can do, rather than empower the learners of this wonderful instrument.

The very first video that not only shows the real capability of this keyboard but get me finally understand the relation between performances and scenes from another perspective (maybe the right one). Although to fully understand the beauty of this videos and why is completely different from any other you have to already have some knowledge (more than the basics) about it... This is so refreshing, and impeccable work on your part for both the creativity in the performances (sounds and layout) coupled to some great pieces of music to demonstrate these.

You fill a very needed hole in the arsenal of extensions for the Montage/Modx.

Easysounds great for sound palette, narfsounds for covers in a band scenario etc.

You fill the playability space exceedingly well, either for actual live play or indeed a great base for a compositional scratch pad and to be able to focus on the song first before getting in to the guts of the board and/or daw.

Have you thought of partnering with Yamaha / Hans Peter etc. You are well deserved a place on the next firmware upgrade if they don’t think you are canabilising Genos territory :-)

Hi! You’re very talented music wise and you’re skills programming the arranger parts are awesome. I want to make arranger parts myself and have tried it. But I can’t seem to find a way to program for example a moving bass line that move within a chord that make the right movement when I change a chord. It would be fantastic if you could do a tutorial on how you made one of your great arranger parts. Best Regards / Mack

I have a montage. I didn't know how to handle it because it is so sophisticated, but it is very helpful.
Please continue to introduce various playing methods. That helps a lot.
