Gatekeeping is a douchebag move where people think they have the right to choose who can enjoy and be a fan of a genre or music scene. The truth is... at the end of the day, everyone is welcome in metal. You're gonna like what you like anyway, so gatekeeping is a failure from the start. People are just toxic about it... so... don't gatekeep.

For 40 years I have spent explaining or defending my choice of bands. It's stupid. Like who you like, celebrate those who "discover" your favorite bands. Don't listen to the bands you don't like, simple as that, but be open at least listening to reasonable arguments for something new.

Gatekeeping is necessary to the survival of anything of interest, not an extreme amount mind you but light gatekeeping allows you to keep toxic individuals who will change the thing for the worst out.

I gatekeeped myself out of reality into an alternate universe/(hypothetical timeline) where gabber mixed with latin freestyle in the 90s into a genre of syncopated aggrobass kicks
And sometimes transposed djent&core rhythms into itself to become quasimetal
Then sometimes mixed with witch house music and became Trapmetal
So i know theres other people on my wavelength,
And sometimes mixed with electropop & digital hardcore and became hyperpop

And sometime became neo-romantic movie soundtrack music for b grade sci fi space operas with Lovecraftian bible accurate angels and apocalyptic sky trumpets

I wish i could show you the cool version of the hypothetical music i tried to manifest but i need a producer/engineer/mixer, and money to hire them, And a yesman to pretend i'm awesome so i keep my confidence stable enough to follow through on the experiment,
And collaborators that write music for normies and keep me in check and for me to lean on for input,
Possibly two DJs, one who likes/does hardstyle/terrorcore, and a second one who likes/does hyperpop/Trapmetal
But whom like following the orders of hypothetical timeline people instead of doing their own thing,
But to recreate it live they might not need me so i'm really just gonna end up as the executive and not the artist
