Makes perfect sense. Gotta make sure there are no cheetahs in your surroundings

Actually had a kid I worked with who did that naturally and was calm afterward. This kid figured out on his own how to regulate. Crazy cool!

Ive noticed this during public speaking, which i am usually very anxious about, but while youre presenting if instead of just staring at a point in the back of the room (common advice) you slowly look around the room, specifically at the periphery, engaging with the audience to your flank, ive noticed that i not only feel calmer but also more connected to the other people in the room.

EMDR changed my life. I had CPTSD following a series of traumatic events and I can confidently say that through about 8 months of therapy I can at least complete my tasks and get through life finally

I figured this out as a kid, after noticing my sibling's eyes shift side to side in their sleep...
So I began shifting my eyes side to side as slowly as possible when I couldn't sleep, I'd fall asleep in less then 10 minutes.
Still do it today when I need to, 35 years later!

EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is all about eye movement for clearing past traumas from the nervous system.

I had EMDR, after 5 months I could talk about a traumatic event WITHOUT reliving it. Truly miraculous.

Time to do a “I moved my eyes laterally for 30 days” video

So you check your surroundings, find no threats and stress level goes down? Makes sense

EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is amazing therapy for Acute Childhood Experience. Anyone with childhood trauma should absolutely look into it. It changed my life.

Going for a walk, keeping your head on a swivel for looking out for any form of threats... is EMDR and does reassure and calm that limbic system because it reaffirms safety. The eye movement reaffirms safety because its simulating the original behavior for survival. Look around, you're safe.

No wonder I always fall asleep when I read

My sister used to do this in the military. Whenever she was in a submarine and had her circadian rhythm thrown off, folks used to tell her to close her eyes, move them laterally 30 times and she'd start feeling drowsy.

It does make sense. Each time you look around your brain sees that it's safe. No predators in sight and I checked a hundred times. It must be safe.

This is why I love driving. It's like a natural way to do EMDR. Looking at the scenery while thinking chills me out and makes me feel calmer 😁🛣️🌄✨ Plus the views are beautiful 😍

this why in classic martial arts training you see people sweeping and looking around so much with their entire head. we called it a called it a cover out after finishing your first target you back out and sweep the area for more. it takes you out of the tunnel vision after finishing your first target; you know, since most people have friends I.E backup

I learned from my cat to close and open eyelids slowly. It calms a lot and lets me regain focus.
