For us Puerto Ricans this brings tears in our eyes, they will never kill our spirit.

I played this movie for my grandmother, she had a stroke and has dementia. She sang along to this song. She came to new york in the 60s and our family has been there ever since.

Wish I saw this movie while it was still in the theaters because I heard that in the thearters all the spanish speaking people in the audience got up and sang too.

The beginning of this can be found in September 23, 1868 in my mother's hometown of Lares and its Declaration of Independence from Spain, known as the Grito de Lares. These revolts were also known to have occured in Phillipines, Cuba and elsewhere that Spain had Colonies. See also Puerto Rico's own Betsy Ross, of Italian ancestry, Marianna Bracetti, the Ponce Massacre, and other attacks on civilians through to the 1950s and even the played down "Civil War" of Newark, N.J. about 50 years ago.
Puerto Rico even fought for the Birth of the USA, during the American Revolution vs England, considered non grata by Borinqueneers for centuries and beaten, several times, and saved from Anglo occupation. It helped the American colonies gain its independence as it fought in the south from Louisiana's New Orleans, through the gulf states and, decided one day it also wanted its own independence. Puerto Rico, is in essence, the World's Last Colony.

Coming here was hard. People slammed doors in our face. Well, we became home owners and moved to a better place!

What was going on in Puerto Rico that prompted this song?

“We’re outnumbered boys, thousands more on their way”
I bet the native Americans thought the same thing. 🙁

This is the most ridiculous part of the new version of West Side Story. This revolutionary anthem does not represent the feelings of the majority of Puerto Ricans at all. More than 90% of Puerto Ricans are not interested in any stupid revolution or independence. This was inserted there just to please the few of the Puerto Rican socialist intelligentsia that lives obsessed with this shitty independence. That scene embarrassed me. Stop embarrassing yourself Boricuas.

Esa escena me avergonzó. Paren de avergonzarme con estas boricuadas.
