This scene just showcases how much Bernardo underestimates his sister, he thinks Tony was taking advantage of Maria, but SHE was the instigator of pretty much all of their interactions here, from their little dance, to kissing Tony first…she was the one pretty much seducing Tony here not the other way around LOL.

I don’t think Tony and Maria truly loved each other as much as they lusted over one another. They met one day prior, danced and talked for a bit, then decided to spend the rest of their lives together without learning more about each other or building true chemistry.

It’s the same kind of issue in Romeo and Juliet.

When I walked away after watching Ansel Elgort as Tony, I felt I had witnessed Hollywood stardom. Because of the complexity of the character, I believe this eluded too many critics. I would definitely say that most of the audience agreed with me.

Such a great movie, the best Spielberg since years; and that's someone usually disliking musicals who says that.
Such undeserved that it made a flop.
Seen 2 times in theatre, and yesterday again, on Disney +, so, 3 times in less that a year.
About this scene, it's a shame we don't see the beginning of it here, when they stare at each other and make a lil dance move. A very nice scene anyways.
