Last month, a seemingly unbeatable record was broken. Three car enthusiasts made it from a garage in New York City to a hotel in Redondo Beach, California, in 27 hours and 25 minutes, shaving more than an hour off the old mark, set in 2013. Dana Jacobson reports on the real-life version of the 1981 slapstick comedy “Cannonball Run.”

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, four News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Check local listings for "CBS This Morning" broadcast times.

Speed has never killed anyone - quickly becoming stationary is the problem.

There’s a difference between driving fast and driving recklessly. These guys knew what they were doing.

Yes driving fast is dangerous, that's why the autobahn has always consistently been safer than US highways.

I love how disgusted the news lady is right at the end of the video 😂 I bet she’s parked in the left lane in her Prius going 55 most of the time, causing more danger than these guys did

How about "changing the narrative" of people sitting in the left lane? (One of the most common causes of road rage.)

Everyone can drive fast but not everyone knows how to drive fast

The cars keep getting faster but the speed limits stay the same. It’s like their testing our self control more and more every year.

The narrative that speeding is as dangerous as drinking & driving is both false and insulting. Cars are more than capable of sustained high speeds, decelerating and cornering that ever before. From Honda to Hyundai to Mercedes to Porsche and so on. Cars are designed with sustained speed use in mind. How about we focus on left lane abusers, texting while driving, getting our elderly who are no longer safe drivers off the road(Not all elderly but those who's capacity has diminished are a danger to themselves and others). Lets raise the speed limits to at least 75mph on major roadways. The average flow of traffic is well over 70mph on nearly all highways. The accident rate isn't rising with it, stop the drama Governors

There is no speed limit on the Autobahn in Germany and you see people driving close to 200 mph casually and it's still one of the safest roads in the world. Because people know how to drive and stay in the right lane.

Cannonball did NOT need this kind of publicity. There's just no need to talk to CBS or any TV network. Keep it underground.

It's a new amg Mercedes meant to go 150+ on the autobahn. They are still driving slow. It's the idiots in a 1996 camry going 80, changing lanes, and with tires with no tread.

Kids, please don't try this at home. you would end up crashing with the TV.

The Mercedes is an amazing piece of engineering. A drive-train handling 103 MPH for 27+ hours straight.

Speeding is safe if you know how to do it properly

“Do not do this”

They said that is was a safety concern yet there were no accidents. As I can see they have done it safely. They had electronic equipment, spotters for variable conditions (traffic, weather, and more), skilled drivers, and far capable car for their venture.

I understand both sides. If we decreased left lane abusers, refined our speed limits, and have a very small percentage of road rage; then motoring would be more enjoyable.

I see, in this instance, no harm.

The only reason we dont have high speed limits is because nobody pays attention anymore. Even cops use mounted laptops
