Sisu Review

Sisu reviewed by Matt Donato. Opens in US theaters on April 28, 2023.

Sisu wages a hellacious war against familiar fascist henchmen with an added boost of against-all-odds adrenaline. Jalmari Helander proves that killing Nazis never goes out of style – as long as you're willing to hit as hard as Sisu. Actor Jorma Tommila rages against a hateful German machine as Aatami Korpi with a heroicness fit for fable-like boogyman fantasies passed from one generation to the next. Helander keeps it simple and cranks the dial on intensity to produce an action-packed World War II epic that thrives on a smaller yet still decadent scale of destruction. We praise a tale of impossible might, unlimited mayhem, and a Nazi body count that sure isn't stingy.

It was genius to pair the trailer for this with John Wick 4. The crowd ate it up and the hype was almost palpable.

Finnish Grandparents telling how they went to school back in the day.

Probably the most Finnish movie ever. It takes the 3 big Finnish stereotypes of not giving up, not talking much and letting your deeds do the talking and makes a blockbuster by cranking them into 110%.

Pretty fun movie. The style is Quentin Tarantino like and it is action for 90min. Visuals are very nice and music.

The suspension of disbelief comes with just about every single action movie. So there is no need to say you need to suspend disbelief.

The only thing that matters in a movie or TV show is not complexity. It’s not is it deep, its about the story being well done.

This is Rambo if he existed in the mid-1900s. Instead of battling crooked cops/Viet Congs/Soviets/corrupt Burmese army/Mexican drug cartel he's battling Nazis.

How many WW2 movies can they make? Well, if you ask me they haven't made enough. Problem is they just keep making them about the same events. There's so many events/stories that happened during WW2 that have never had movies made about them. Not big budget movies anyway.

Some of these fight scenes are literally butchered editing wise, had huge potential in my opinion 😭

People were John Wicked out thats why this movie didn’t make more money. Should have waited for a later release. Opinion.
