Timing helps when you want to get new gear. Wait for the "new" stuff to come out and buy the olde stuff. But you have to get the "old" stuff before it's gone.
Here's what I mean:
What's the difference between a Maverick Kinetik 2.0 head and a Kinetik 3.0? $34.04 ($99.99-$64.95).
An Epoch Dragonfly Elite II shaft sells for $89.95 and the Dragonfly Elite III is $149.99. ($60.04 difference).
I save $94.04 on my stick set-up by buying last year's models. The difference is usually a different font on the logo or different color options. The actual improvements are typically incremental if there are any at all.

STX Cell VI gloves are $139.99. Cell V's are $99.95 ($40.04 difference). I use the Cells.
The STX Surgeon RZR2 gloves are $179.99, the RZR's are $135.95 ($44.04 savings). These are the "top of the line" from STX.

The Cell VI arm guards are $109.99, the V's are $64.95 and the IV's are $54.95. You go with the IV's you save $55.04 (that's basically 1/2 price).
For shoulder pad, I just wear the "liner" I don't go with full shoulder pads. The Cell VI is $124.99. The V is $59.99. That's a $70 difference.
I don't gat all my pads at the same time, I replace what I need when I need it, but by getting previous year's gear (which is what I do), I would save $303.20 on my entire set-up including my stick.
