A perfect bike to learn the hazards that pop up on the street. This is the bike I recommended my son to buy. Yamaha has always had good stuff with the best reliability I have ever seen.

FZ-06, FZ-07, and FZ-09, not available with ABS in the US as far as I am aware. I would also like to see a windscreen even as an option. The lack of ABS especially is a big mark against Yamaha in my decision making process.

Please offer ABS!

I've owned both....the FZ07 is better in just about every way...lighter...more pull of torque...bigger rear tire, fit and finish,  is nicer. Ninja 650 is a great bike and if you like plastics its still a great choice.

The initial comment made by nismozx6r is incorrect. All dealers have freight and setup fees, no matter how they spin it. The profit margin between cost and MSRP is very small, and there's no hold-back like with cars. Factory rebates occasionally happen. But if a dealer is selling a Ninja 650 at MSRP out-the-door that's because it's been discounted in some way. You can't forget sales tax and registration, etc. Also, the Ninja has been on the market since 2006 and in it's current form since 2012, and the FZ-07 is new. Also, the Ninja isn't a spectacular seller, so dealers have reason to discount it. This video is Yamaha advertising, but either bike is an excellent choice.

Kawasaki needs to revamp their 650 and make it lighter and more aggressive looking like the ninja 300. A little extra power wouldn't hurt either. Maybe go to a parallel 3 cylinder, or make the twin rev higher.

why pay more? because the fz07 feels like its going to slide off on the fuckin twisties. obviously it wont but its fuckin alarming sometimes. rode an er6n and its way more confidence inspiring.

The ninja is significantly faster in all aspects and arguably better looking. Actually the 2017 model 650 isn't even arguably... It is a lot better looking. However, nothing beats the sound of that fz07!
